Zwift 3-speed Foot Pod Calibration
Was really looking forward to the release of the new foot pod calibration protocol having recently taken to using Zwift on treadmill runs. Using the old calibration format I was usually within ~.1 mph between treadmill/Garmin/Zwift. On the new protocol using three different speeds the speed that Zwift reads isn't even close to reality.

I run on a SOLE F83, which doesn't change speeds quickly enough to keep up with the way the new Zwift 3-speed calibration process requires speed changes. This is made even worse by the fact that after setting an initial speed, it drops by .9/mph and then finally increases by almost 2mph for the final calibration (ex- run for 40 sec @ 6.5mph>40 sec @ 5.6mph>40 sec @ 7.4). All of these speeds are only held for 40sec. My treadmill won't even gain the final full 2mph by the time the 40 sec. has elapsed.

So now instead of with .1mph it's all over the place. When I set treadmill to 6.5mph Zwift thinks I'm running at 7.5mph (which is odd since the first 40 sec. of calibration I begin @ 6.5 and it gets the full 40 sec. to calibrate). If I increase to 7mph then Zwift jumps to 8.5mph. If I drop down to 6mph then Zwift reads it at 5.4 or so.

Is there a way to restore previous versions of iOS apps? I'd take the old version of calibration and being within 1/10th mph any day over what I've currently got. Was really enjoying running with Zwift, so hopefully a new update will be able to address this either by improving the new 3 stage process (maybe allow for a period of time between each speed to allow treadmills to catch up, or a longer duration that the treadmill calibrates at each speed, or both...) or allowing the option of the old 1-speed calibration.

Maybe Jordan Rapp will see this post and can comment.

I tried using the 3 step process this morning. My treadmill (True PS100) can change speed quickly, but I found the paces still off. Initially it had me running 20-30" a mile slower. By the end of my run it said I was running 6:45 pace when I was only at 7:24. My Garmin foot pod, on the other hand, is absurdly accurate and never seems to have the pace waiver at all.

I guess I'll run in Zwift for the views, but then upload my run according to my Garmin.

I just had another idea. Could you hop onto the sides of the treadmill, stoping running while the speed of the treadmill adjusts, then hop on for the 2nd and 3rd 40” segments?? Not sure if that would work, but may be worth a try.

Hey, that’s worth a try... hadn’t thought of that! Fingers crossed!

I have to say, I'm also somewhat glad to hear that this might not *only* be an issue with my (older) treadmill. Hopefully a fix will be in the works from Zwift.

I hadn't heard about this update (that's what I get for not reading the release notes). Yesterday was my first run using Zwift for "distraction" and recording on my Forerunner 935. The Zwift running calibration has bugged me for a long time, and I really want the TSS/TE data my watch will gather. YMMV.
