Hey all...
Well, I got my USAF retirement present to me today...custom built Zipp 417 rims laced to a PowerTap SL 2.4 in the back and a matching Cycleops front hub for the front. Dave at Wheelie Fun set me up and gave me a great deal on the whole setup...$2400 for the whole shooting match, including all of the stuff required to use the PowerTap hub...the CPU, the heart rate strap, etc, etc.
After thinking long and hard about it, I wanted a PowerTap, but I also wanted some decently aero race wheels. I also wanted to race with my PowerTap. So, after talking the guys at Wheelie Fun, and Josh at Zipp, I decided to go with custom built Zipp clincher rims that can take the abuse of daily training. Yeah, yeah, I know, don't train on your race wheels, but I couldn't afford a PowerTap training wheel set up and a Power Tap race wheel set up. So, this is the compromise I went with...stoutly built clincher aero rims.
Here is my Kuota, fresh from her pre-IM checkup at Wheelie Fun. Unsolicited kudos to Dave at the shop: When I dropped the bike off on Saturday, I told him I probably wouldn't get to the shop on Tuesday and that I wasn't in a rush, but then when I heard my wheels were in, I rushed over after work, forgetting that I had told them that. Dave immediately grabbed my bike and in about 90 minutes relubed, regreased, checked all the bolts, recabled a the shifters, etc, etc, all while I waited. Thanks!!
Oh yeah, Rod...I learned how to resize my pics!! Now they aren't huge!
My trusty steed, ready to go.
My cockpit with the Powertap CPU. Much cleaner than with my old cyclometer sticking way up into the airflow.
Rear wheel with Powertap SL 2.4 wireless hub. I'm pretty stoked about this!
