Zipp Likes To Break Stuff
A neat video about just how much Zipp likes to break things. The video is on the development process behind the new (well, not so new now) 303. The thread on Cavendish's "Zipp Taco" made me think of it, but I didn't want the video hidden in there.

Enjoy.

Saw that a couple weeks ago when they posted it on FB. People should understand why their wheels cost more when you start to count the engineering that goes into them.

How strong would a solid carbon disk or solid carbon deep rim be? Great video, wish I had all the gadgets they do.

You can't really answer that question. Carbon fiber - which is really a misnomer, since it's technically carbon-fiber and epoxy in a matrix - doesn't have a defined material strength. In other words, there's no one answer to "how strong is carbon fiber?" So you can't say how strong a wheel would be. The simple answer to your question is that it would likely be really heavy and absurdly rigid and REALLY expensive.

Yeah, lets just call Speedway the greater Indianapolis area and call it a day. They don't call it the Speedway 500 do they? ;-) What is it, 5 miles from downtown?

Actually, they just built a new building on the Northwest side of Indy, so technically it isn't Speedway anymore. Sram, it seems, gave them whatever they needed to build a dream space, so hopefully they are content being Hoosiers for a long time to come.

The pics are sweet in this write up: http://velonews.competitor.com/...-neighborhood_154336

Fabian Cancellara should watch this video after Roubaix 2011, when he realizes after racing on a Trek Madone with Bontrager wheels that maybe George Hincapie isn't just the unluckiest man in the history of the race.
