Zipp 1080 or 808 rear wheel?
Hi,

I'm a fulltime triathlete and only doing long-distance races. My goals for this and next year are qualification for Clearwater and Hawaii. To get these slots, I'm participating in quiet flat races and probably also in Cozumel. Hawaii and Cozumel are known to be windy. I'm wondering which rearwheel to buy, and I'm in doubt between the Zipp 1080 and 808.

What would you recommend me?
Are there any circumstances you'd rather want to ride a 808 instead of the 1080 as a rearwheel, or is the Zipp 1080 quiet handable in windy conditions?

I'm 160 lbs in weight. In my opinion the 1080 looks much nicer ;).

Thanks

The ST consensus is that the rear wheel will not effect handling nearly as much as your choice for the front wheel. So you should go with the 1080. It's faster. The real question is, 1080 or 808 for front.

Your rear wheel will stabalize you. You get most of the "wind issues" from your fron wheel. I ride a disc rear and 1080 front and love it. If you want to play it a little safer I would go 808 front (but the 1080 is so much cooler).

Go with an 808 with a Power Tap hub, then put a disc cover on it when conditions/distances permit. You then can use the 808 (with power) on your road bike as well.
