Zipp 1080?

Do anyone use Zipp 1080 any longer?

I am wondering about buying Zipp 1080 to use on 70.3 and Olympic distances. Both front and rear. Any benefits with such a deep rim? Have 80mm wheels today, no disc wheel.

If I remember correctly Zipp did away with the 1080 because the 808 FC is just as fast if not faster at most yaw angles due the superior shape of the Firecrest rims. Zipp also couldn't really scale up the FC shape to a 1080 depth because the total rim width which would have been required was far to big to fit on just about any frame/brake on the market where it would have been used. Its one case where wider rather than deeper proved to be faster. So to answer your questions there are aero advantages to running 1080s over some but not all 80mm wheels.

save the $. you're 80mm wheels are likely fine. get a disc cover and you're good.

The only thing the 1080 will give you over your 80mm you already have is the intimidation factor as you are basically running a disc wheel on the front. Of course it handles like crap in windy conditions, but that's a small price to pay.
