Worst advice you've received on slowtwitch...

Mine would have to be sitting on a tennis ball for an IT band injury. Ever since I did that the inner hamstring tendons/adducters of both legs have been tightening iquite badly if I'm seated or in a similar position with my legs bent.

What's yours?

that putting 10 pounds of fluid on my bike and 40 gu's on the top tube of my bike was a good idea. Oh and to use jock cups as arm rests for my skyward pointed aero bars. Oh and anything that Andrew Coggan says.

That I should not take salt and magnesium for my cramps. I guess it was just a placebo affect that they would go away when I took these supplements. It is really not the heat, but that I'm just going too hard.. OF course I did not take the advice, so maybe it doesn't count for your survey....

My pet hate is the "advice" by those who have no real world experience (either their own or through their athletes) and simply quote what they've learned from too much time reading Slowtwitch.

"Run more", "run every day" comes to mind...

I hear ya, but at least those concepts (i.e., volume, frequency) have a reasonable scientific basis to suggest they offer some benefits. The advice that pisses me off are things like "It's a waste of time to do any training below LT. I know a guy who never did aerobic training and he ran a 15-minute 5k on 18 mpw." Purely anecdotal n=1 shit with practically zero clinical science behind it. Or stuff like "It's dumb to lift weights. Do you think the Kenyan's lift weights?", seemingly implying that some middle-aged white guy from Kenosha who just took up endurance sports should follow the same protocol as a 19-yr old east African that has run 15k to/from school every day since he was 8.

It's still not the best thing to do! :)

Oh boy, you nailed it with that one. My personal favorite was a guy who asked about a marathon taper.

Guess who one of the responders is? You guessed it.....a guy who has NOT run a marathon!

Here is his recommendation for what a proper 2 week taper into a marathon could look like:

M: 13 miles with 10 of those at race pace.
T: 4 miles easy
W: 8 miles at race pace
Th: 8 miles easy
F: 6 miles, 1 mile easy, 4 miles at Half mara pace, 1 mile cool down
Sa: 8 miles, with last 6 at race pace
Su: 5 miles easy

M: 13 miles: Marathon pace
T: 6 miles Half marathon pace
W: 5 miles: 1 miles easy, 3 miles 10k pace, 1 miles easy
Th: 6 miles, last 4 at race pace
F: 5 mile recovery
Sa: Race

enjoy.... http://forum.slowtwitch.com/...earch_engine#2081086

So race week, you're running 35 miles with 26 miles of it at marathon pace OR FASTER. I almost thought this was a joke and can only pray that no one took this taper seriously.

This thread could go on and on and on with scores of examples like this.
