Anyone else think it's bogus to have a winter tri when there isn't any snow?
I mean, I realize the global climate is changing and all...ha....... Anyway! I realize Freudenstadt had unseasonably high temperatures, and there's nothing we can do about that, but isn't there some way to move the race up a mountain? Across the country? To a different country? SOME sort of alternate, in the case that the weather is uncooperative?
In a local triathlon, there's no way to send people out into 10 foot waves, so I completely understand turning that into a duathlon.
In a winter tri, if there's no snow, you can't really make it a duathlon and still preserve the whole 'winter' thing. So I commend the fake snow track in Freudenstadt. It probably took a lot of work.
But it's a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP race! COME ON! PART OF WINTER TRIATHLON IS A RUN ON SNOW AND A BIKE ON SNOW! That's what makes it cool. It's not just a Mountain XC course. It's a SNOW xc course. Same with the running. It's like calling a road tri an Xterra.... kindof... if you look at it just right.
