Will Simon Whitfield Race Again?

It wasn't all that long ago that I remember Simon Whitfield testing out all sorts of gear and announcing Litespeed as a new bike sponsor. It seemed fairly definite that he was moving up to longer non-drafting races and then....nothing happened. I heard an interview where he did announce a "semi-retirement." Believe me, if he's looking to retire, I doubt there's anyone more deserving. I'm just surprised there was such an about face to previously mentioned plans and it's seems a little curious that no one ever mentions the original goals of moving up in distance. Just wondering if I missed any interview or something that offers and explanation as to the change of course.

Not that any of us need or even deserve an explanation, just wondering what happened.

There is a rumor I hear around town that he is in the middle of a divorce. Again, just a rumor as everyone here seems to know someone who knows someone who "knows Simon". Could have something to do with it.

Long Chile was a silly place.

How about we leave his private life out of this, Simon is happy doing other things at the moment, spending quality time with his family.

Well, precisely, that is what I have heard in the interviews... But there were some pretty concrete statements about racing made last year, so I'm wondering if they've been put on hold, canceled, etc?

No offense or privacy infringement intended whatsoever, I just heard it and thought it might explain why his plans may or may not have changed, which is what the OP was asking.

After all that guy has done for Canada, Victoria, and triathlon in general I hope he gets to spend the rest of his life doing whatever makes him happy!

Long Chile was a silly place.

He spoke at the awards ceremony at Ironman Canada in Whistler. He said he hasn't swam in 2 months. He was doing a lot of stand up paddle boarding on the lake there in Whistler.

He is retired. Will he race again? Maybe. But almost certainly not at the pro level. I'm gonna lock this thread. Hopefully that gives the needed answer. And we can leave the other stuff out of this. Thanks.
