Why aren’t Zipp wheels black?
I was just wondering why Zipp wheels aren’t ‘real’ black like Bontrager’s, Enve’s or Profile Design wheels? They always seem to have this gold-ish look them. Anyone know why? I mean, is just the way they are produced, is it on purpose I think they would like nicer if they were just real black.

This is a good question... they actually look quite black out of the box, but yeah, over time, they do get that brown look to them. The new NSW line seems to be blacker.

True, I got a pair of 808/404 for my Andean lasy year and indeed they looked more black but now they have again this gold/brownish look over them. I had some 808/404’s rim brake version and a set of NSW’s as well but same thing happened after a while. I just don’t get it. Pure black would look so much nicer.

Because they are not painted.
You are seeing the raw carbon through the epoxy.
The epoxy also yellows a bit with age.

Neither are other wheels. ENVE, Bontragers I've seen at least.

But then again, the older Bontragers I see - one guy has had his Aeolus 9 basically since the day they came out - are also "faded-grey" by now.
