Why are there No Regulations/Restrictions for bicycle racing tires?
Motorsports has it. Even running shoes have it!

IMHO, BRR, AeroCoach, and Internet Forums are fueling "Tire Wars". The just announced Veloflex Record TLR has almost HALF the rolling resistance of the Continental 4000S II, a tire many here cut their teeth on.

There is even precedent for this. Historically, the UCI has had no problem banning technology it deems gives a competitor an unfair advantage.

Lastly, when all else is said and done, the grip, puncture resistance, etc., of a tire is a safety issue.

What do you think, or is the Cognoscenti doomed to a perpetual rat race?

I personally would LOVE if they banned any tires faster than GP5000s.

Tire companies would probably find a way to keep such a rule from happening. But I could see things being capped in the CS2 / Mich Power TT / Conti TdF level. It seems to me that only Veloflex is really pushing the boundaries of un-usability with the Record.

Interesting that even Veloflex has shown restraint, so far. Otherwise why nerf the pre-silica Record that Aerocoach measured as 16w vs 21 for CS2?
