I am trying to find out who actually makes the rims used on the most popular wheelsets out there. For instance rims on shimano wheels are manufacturered by araya. Tell me what you know

From what I understand, Zipp makes the American Classic and Cane Creek carbon rims and Bontrager's disc. Also, Sun makes the aluminum extrusion used by Nimble for their Spider and HED for their Jets. I think that you are correct in that Araya makes Shimano's rims. That's all the inside info that I've got.

The supply chain is so convoluted I don't even try to keep track anymore. Everybody is so secretive. I figure, once the product is made and it is good quality and a fair price I don't spend too much time worrying about who made it. Most of what I've read on this thread sounds accurate though.
