While we are talking multi Iron records how about 40Irons in 40 Day in under 445hrs

Worldrecord for 20ims, 30ims (of course for 40ims: seems the first time done)
Slowest im in 12:00:02; average time 11:06:32.

Impressive, especially taken into account the wind in Fuerteventura and the 2000m of climbing every day.

..

Yeah his ability to reel off decent marathons day after day off the bike is what sets him apart..He is definitely a beast.

That is super impressive, and it appears it was on an open course? They mentioned the bike and the climbing, where were the runs, and were all the swims in a pool? Was it the same exact course everyday/

Looking at his times, he seems to be an aerobic machine, never falling off of pace for any of them, and even doing some mid 10 hour races. His recovery must be one of the best ever to do this, low to mid 3 hour marathons everyday would be an accomplishment in of itself, without the other 7+ hours of swimming and biking!!

Thanks for posting this up, seems like a really legit endurance feat of strength. Would love more details on how it all came about, and how it was executed.

Here you go Monty with al the stats. The funny thing is by "elite" standards he is a shit swimmer.Until Sept this year he was the Double Iron World Record holder at sub 20hrs so yes he is an aerobic machine..

Thanks for all those stats, and yes, his swim could use some work, but if nothing else, he is consistent. I of course have never seen him swim, but have to imagine that he has at least 10 minutes just in some stroke changes, never mind he is as fit as a human being can be for ultra endurance.

So was it all in a pool, did he do the same exact courses each day/ I would assume so, makes all the logistics a lot easier. And very interesting looking at his heart rates, you can see where he gets heart tired, but still is able to hold, even pick up paces at different points. Of course a lot of that will have to do with what the days weather brought him, certainly some days were fast, some very slow..

So how well supported was he, daily massage, chef, someone out on course on the bike and runs? Or were there loops involved, that's how I would have planned it, coming by a few times each event to be able to do proper, and longish feeds..

Given that he's not a swimmer's swimmer, could it be that his swim times represent his warm up pace for the day after the previous day's result?

Ya, those are not horrible times, don't know what his swimming background is. But assuming it is in a SCM pool(I really dont know), it is decent to go about a 1;15 everyday or so. I suppose I am overlaying my history, or that of an ex retired swimmer on him. He certainly leans more towards being a really good ultra runner, just when I look at his pics, he looks pretty big for just a runner.

It looks like he could do 8 minute miles all day long if need be, his jogging pace that he can recover from quickly and do over and over again. What is his stand alone marathon time, anyone know? I would guess around 2;30 or so..

Rait only did a couple of Ironmans and I don't know his PR.He did turn himself into an Ultra-runner though and his swim is what it is,pretty average for a world record holded but he gets it done on the back end when it counts.
.
To give you all some perspective here are the results from the Double Ultra Worlds in Lithuania this year. The winner Robert Karas is pretty much a full time pro athlete with an Ironman PR of 8:30'ish and this was his world record race taking the record off Rait who as you can see had to play catch up all day to Robert.(Rait suffered a lot that day).Third place was well known Frenchman Arnaud Selukov who has an Ironman Dist PR of 8:50'ish in Roth.He is also a past Ultraman Australia Champ.Arnauld was in second place all day until he developed gut issues during the run and slowed down to take 3rd.It was a crazy race to witness.

Here is an interview with Rait on the IUTA website. He is a top bloke as we would say in Oz.

Ya, you can see that Robert is a real pro in the sport, best splits in all 3 sports. Now back to back 53 swims for an ironman, that is a swimmer... (-;

Really a different league when you get to guys that can do 8'30's or better, Imagine someone like Frondeno stretching it out to two, sub 17 no doubt.

Looks like he did it at Playitas resort, which is an awesome base for it. I’m sure the weather was fun some days :)

I was at Playitas a few weeks ago while he was doing his challenge. Every day he was in the 50m pool at 7:30, lane #8, he'd then head out on a 1-loop ride, then back to the resort for run loops around the resort, I think it was about a 3.5k loop. During the Playitas bike tours we would see him out there, his team ready on the side of the road with nutrition. The wind definitely kicked up a few of those days! For the run he'd occasionally have people running with him, but his form always looked so much better than that of everyone else. His team was in a fixed spot on the loop, right in the center of the resort.

Many of the Playitas morning activities started around the pool, so he finished the swim and started the bike to a standing ovation. It was pretty cool.

From what I understood of his homepage (see links above) he planned 40 days. He was in some resort, so 40 days is already an expensive holiday.

Right, certainly understand the financial implications but, as long as you're going to do something this huge, why not extend it to 50??? I'm thinking that doing 50 would totally deflate the Iron Cowboy's sails. :)

They really did two different types of challenges. Even though an ironman was the daily requirement, the ironcowboy's traveling to 50 different states made it exponentially harder for him. Not only will his times be slower because of all that extra busy time, but he would get a lot less sleep than if he just stayed in one spot. And the logistical stress had to be horrible for him too, tired beyond belief, and having to worry if there was enough money, food, or even a course for the next day..

So not sure why people think 50 is the magic number, seems like this guy pushed out the high end standard of 30 to 40 this time around. These are the actual gold standard for this sort of challenge, Ironcowboy stuff is more like crossing a big channel swimming, without observers..

And I dont know his state of mind or body, but it seems like he was either cruising in, or dying in the last couple days, with his slowest time on the last day..

.

Because the existing longest record for the IUTA was 30 in 30 which they did in Sicily a few years ago and they are doing again in New Orleans next year. That was the standard for the IUTA and so the next progression was 40.Nobody at the IUTA gives a toss about what IronCowboy did in regard to records as it was done so differently that it doesn't count.Hell they don't even recognise Ultraman as a real triathlon because of the split days.
I am sure one day someone will try for 50 in 50 in the structured way Rait did his 40.One guy in Oz tried to do 100 in 100 but failed pretty early on and managed 27'ish..

Any ideas on why he stopped at 40??? His times were holding pretty well so why not keep going and do 50 or 60???

I figured you'd say this but, given how strong he was going, he appears to be capable of continuing for 50, 75, 100 days or more. If he could work out a deal with that resort for free lodging and food, he could stay there and just keep going until he just can't get out of bed one day. I can see the headline "Man bangs out 187 straight ironmans in 187 days but on day 188, his legs just refuse to leave the bed..." "Come to our resort and you too can do multiple ironmans in a row..."

"Anyone can be who they want to be IF they have the HUNGER and the DRIVE."

Right, certainly understand the financial implications but, as long as you're going to do something this huge, why not extend it to 50??? I'm thinking that doing 50 would totally deflate the Iron Cowboy's sails. :)

Gee you are a kunt to think that.

Cowboy did 50 on the road. This guy did them all in the same location.

Cowboy is still much better than this guy. Hands down

I think everyone should consult ST before they do anything.
