Which wheels for the uphill SOS Triathlon Bike Course?
I've got a choice on wheels for the SOS Tri. Here's the bike elevation profile - http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/106478545
It's mostly flat for 24 miles and then climbs up quite a bit for an uphill finish for the last 6 miles.

I've got a Zipp 404 front with an 808 rear with a power tap (heavy) inside, OR a DT Swiss semi-aero wheelset that is crazy light. I'm thinking about going with the DT Swiss rear and Zipp 404 front. Any ideas?

Impressive 1000+ ft climb but I would still use a disc and a deep front if I did that race since there are 24 miles of flat in front of the climb.

404/808, and slop on a disc cover if you can. Go aero.

It really is not that difficult of a climb. It is just steady most of the way up. Go with the most aero wheels you have for it.

Oh yeah, the 808 has a wheelbuilder disc cover on it.

While people arguing for the aero setup are principally right ... I don't think it actually matters much on this course ... particularly because a potential gain of 30sec on the first leg is entirely meaningless for the rest of the race that you will be doing pretty much solo without many people in sight (unlike let's say a 70.3 where you might want to be in a particular position after the bike to run with other people). My 2 cents ... take the wheelset that you think is cool. See you on Sun.
