Which trisuit to take to the wind tunnel?
As a Boardman ambassador I will soon have access to their wind tunnel in the very new performance center. Except from the Boardman bike, obviously, I am free to use whatever equipment I can get my hands on.

What do you recon about trisuits? My setup in IM 70.3 Marbella was a two piece Fusion SLi kit (last years kit sponsor) with a Castelli T1: Stealth top above on during the swim/bike. A great piece of kit for sure, but the best regarding aerodynamics? I doubt it.

A Bioracer Speedwear speed suit is on my wish list regarding testing. What other should I try? Thankful for any thoughts.

I think regardless of what you do decide you should also bring a tight, rear zip itu style suit and make sure to test it with the zipper lanyard tucked inside your suit.

Hi Thomas and thanks for your reply. I dont have a suit and have to get hold of one. Know any brand that might be among the best?

I would opt for a Kiwami Amphibian . They can often be found on clearance. You want just a really basic one but not something like the spider. IMHO marketing gimmicks like the spider could just leader to a less than aero design. In the case of the spider the spider-webbing allows for opportunity to bunch as opposed to just straight piece of fabric which can hug the natural contours of the body.

I would be interested to see how the DeSoto Forza or Riveria sleeved and sleeveless suits stack up with the like of what Thomas said of the Kiwami

I would also grab a LG LGNEER tri skin suit I know those aren't cheap and you don't have a money tree in the backyard, but I would love to see if these suits really are "worth" the free speed we think we are getting.

Have fun and good luck in the tunnel!

As you're in the UK I'd like to see the nopinz suit tested. And maybe the Smart (Simon) suit.

By now I have found my options to be:

Sleeved

Alternativs?

    Sleeveless
  • Kiwami Amphibian

Obviously I cannot buy all but have to go for the ones with highest likelyhood for a good performance. Any comments/additions on my selection above?

I’d try the LG and Drag2Zero suits. The Kiwami sleeveless is an excellent choice. If you have a “normal” build I’d test the LG suit. If you have long arms... particularly a long humerus... I would test the Drag2Zero.

I race in a standard ITU style suit—how much time am I giving up with the lanyard flipping around over 56 miles?

Depending how much time you get in the tunnel, you COULD test not only something high end like Castelli, LG, or Kiawami et all. But compare it to some of the value brands like Sparks, Dhb, or SLS3. See how much speed you really are buying. Or at least compared to a standard bike jersey. How much speed are we really buying? Or are we just buying comfort?

I still lapped everyone on the couch!

Of course, it would be interesting to test all kind of different clothing options. If I have time enough I will try, but the most important thing for me is obviously to find the fastets option, and will prioritize the products which most likely will be best.

No idea as I didn't test it but you would be surprised what athletes need to be told. Like why have the lanyard flapping around in the water and bike... why not just tuck it into your suit? I would presume it to add some drag.

Id like you to try one suit twice one as they sell it and one version after you brought it to a tailor to adjust it to your body.
I would imagine the fit the biggest factor between those suits
Why not contact the comapnies if they send them to you as they should have an interest to get info.

Ok, we've given you over a year to wind tunnel test. What were the results and which ones did you test?

I did publish all the results from the test in a previous tread. The full report and pictures can be seen here:
https://www.dropbox.com/...d%20tunnel%20results

Baseline was Bioracer Trisuit
Santinit 777 was 1 watt slower
Endura Ecapsulator was 3 watt slower

Then I tested the Castellia Gabba Jacket and Santini Thermal yersey which was 8 and 6 watts slower (I need to use a jacket like that in Norseman so thats the reason for testing).

I ended up getting a sponsorship with Bioracer and now ride a custom tailered suit which is by far the best I have used in regards of comfort. Will be exiting to get it to the tunnel.

Thanks allot that’s exactly what I was looking for. Were you using the endura skin suit the encapsulator with SST or which version were you using?

Thanks for posting this link and admire your openness to information. Just to make sure I’m reading the Dropbox link correctly. The Santini suit was the fastest based on the target setup you went with followed by the endura one? Also the kask mistral was the most significant watt save?

I understand that it is difficult to read everything. The fastest suit was Bioracer Speedwear Concept Trisuit which was the on I started with. The last test was nr. 14, then I started testing different helmets, and then going back to my LG P-09 helmet and testing suits. The Bioracer was 2 watts faster than Santini and 4w than the Endura.

The fastest helmet tested was the Kask Mistral yes.
