Which aeroclincher <$1000
If you WERE to buy a pair of aero-clinchers (under $1000) for racing (oxymoron?), and I'm not sure I am, which would you choose and why? Hed Alps? Spinergy Tillium PBO? Spinergy Carbon SS?
Other?

I would get a pair of Hed3 clinchers if you are so inclined to buy a clincher.

But if you want higher performance, get it as a tub...

Hed 3 front? what about a Renn rear? How much wind would it take to cause a problem with the disc rear? I'm 178-180#.

I would go with the Hed3's on both, but I have thought of your idea of running with a 3 in the front and a Renn in the rear. I am now 160lbs, but I raced last season between 150-160. I was worried about the wind too, so that is why I went with the pair of 3's. Yes, clinchers are race quality rims so don't be led a stray by the clincher/tuby war that is ongoing

I have a HED3 and Renn Disk clincher. I use them for all my racies and never had problems with wind. I am under 170lb (~74kg).
In this setup the HED3 front is more vulnerable to wind than the rear disk. Im impacts your steering directly.
A HED3 and a Disk is the fastest setup you can have. And wind is rarely a problem.

A Renn rear would be a wonderful investemnt. I have absolutely nothing but the highest praise for Frank Rehnelt and his great products. It is faster than a rear Hed3, as well.

Thanks!

Besides the Renn is cheaper than any of the other carbon aero rears.

I vote for HED in the sub-$1000 clincher category.

Tom,

Do you mean for the set (which is what I meant) or for the disc? And, if for the set which Hed, H3 of Alps?

Used Hed 3 front for 200.00 or less, new Renn disc for...what is the newest one going for now? 499? Take the other $300.00 and take your significant other on a weekend getaway. THAT will make you ride better! Anyway, disc rear 3 spoke front is the ticket. At your weight, on a big with appropriate geometry, a disc rear and H3 front may actually be MORE stable in wind than H3 front and rear. Yes, the H3 can be a handful if it is really windy...but the rear disc evens the lateral pressure out nicely.

The old web site, the old Renn disc listed for 319.00. It's not accurate any more.
