1 season to 5 seasons. It depends on the user and how they took care of their equipment.

Post a picture of the chainring so we can see the teeth and let you know.

When they stop working well.

Actual lifespan depends on a lot of factors, like how they were made, how they were maintenanced, and the environment that you're riding in.

It depends:

- chainring quality (the cheaper, and lighter weight stuff tends to wear out first)
- milage (1 season for some of us is 5 seasons for others)
- exposure (dirt, mud, old chains etc will accelerate wear)
- maintenance (regular cleaning and proper lubing will make them last longer- this is probably the most important factor in lifespan)
- how does it shift? If everything is set up well and your bike shifts like crap, swap it. Good photos shown to an experienced mechanic/cyclist are usually enough to allow a good opinion of it is time to swap to new.
- If you need to swap any of the chain/chainrings/cassette, i would swap them all, as the condition of one usually reflects the condition of the others. Replacing only one is often a fools errand as the new one will just wear that much faster.

Running a badly worn chain is the surest way to quickly destroy chain rings. If you all replace your chain before they exceed spec. chain rings can often be run for 10s of thousands of miles.

YMMV
