What kind of fan do you use for indoor training (zwift)
Alright, I think I've stationary sweated for long enough, so I'm looking for a fan.

What are your suggestions/findings? Size, stationary or oscillating, corded/chargeable/battery, handlebar mounted or free standing?

I've had this for about 5 years. 3 speed setting. Moves a lot of air, but can be a little loud. Use it for treadmill and indoor trainer.

I have this exact model.

It's plugged into a smart wifi plug. Once I heat up I turn it on with my phone.

There's a few variations of these 20" Lasko fans and they are all pretty good air movers for the money. Spending the extra couple dollars on one with a remote is well worth it.

Vornado 293 Heavy-Duty Shop Air Circulator Fan

I can crank it up, and it remains reasonably quiet.

The only nit is that that I have to periodically adjust and tighten the knobs that allow tilting.

Very happy with the purchase.

I got 2 Honeywell HT-900 fans. Super cheap ($12) and they do the job.

I'd also recommend a wireless power remote so you can turn on the fan by pressing a button on the remote after you've warmed up.

Here's one that's good if you're using multiple fans:

I use the one that cheers the loudest and wipes the sweat off my forehead...she is usually in a bikini holding up a sign with my name on it.

then I wake up for an early swim, dream is over, and hate everything about my life

i'm looking for something similar to the wahoo kickr headwind. but it's too expensive adn i don't need a 'smart' fan. i' d like something similar to lasko but here in italy they are not avaiable and i think it s a good idea to puchase something with a remote conttroller.

vornado seem good but i see that the power selector is not in a good position. i usually change the fan speed during the workout (execept in hot months like july and august when i always use the maximun speed). here inamazon italy i seee the vornado 633 that seems strong enough...maybe too much powerfull because in my paincave i can't put the fan too far (maxium 1 meter from me).

These Lasko fans are better. I have the Vornado you referenced, and the Vornado 293 referenced earlier, and this Lasko outperforms them both. Two of these Lasko fans pointed at you and you will be set.

This Lasko fan seem like the wrong solution to me, especially if he has to locate it close to himself.
You want a large airflow over a large area at moderate speed for the best cooling and comfort. Axial fans are not good for developing high pressure, but you don't need or want high pressure in this case and an axial fan will do fine. I don't see any advantage in a centrifugal unit like that Lasko fan. Given the much smaller outlet compared wuth a large axial fan, either the air velocity is far higher or the total airflow is very low. I expect it's the former. Surely you'd be better off with a basic axial fan?
It might be a perfectly good fan, but it's the wrong tool for the job, IMO.

I use the Stanley-branded version of this one.. 3 speeds, remote control, floor-standing, or can be wall-mounted. It's in an uninsulated detached garage and manages to keep me (relatively) cool in the humid Pennsylvania summer.

I have both the blower and a 18 inch fan. Both work great but for the hottest days the blower does work better despite the smaller channel airflow.

my initial idea was a lasko but i can't find it here in italy. so i've just ordered a vornado 633. I need a lot of air in theese days..i sweat a lot even in winter (my pain cave in winter sometimes is at about 5° Celsius..but i swear a lot anyway)

What i'm worried about the vornado is that maybe the airflow is too narrow...and i need something that can hit both my head and my body (90% of my indoor time is in TT position except when i climb on zwift).

Cooling is mostly achieved by evaporation of sweat. If there's nor much air circulation, then there's much less ability to evaporate sweat. The actual air temperature is less important than whether it's moving and the relative humidity.

the problem in winter with fans is that they move very cold air in my pain cave . maybe this is not a problem for skin but it could be a big problem with lungs if you are doing a challenging workout.

by the way i've bought a vortego 633 and i'll do all my tests in the next days. hope i could use it even without a remote control.

Agreed, static very cold air isn't much use and blowing very cold air can be too much.
I used to train in a garage that got down to just above freezing in winter. I used to heat it to maybe 10degC before training there with fans.

Been using a variety of fans for years. Best upgrade ever was buying one that has a remote control. It can cycle on/off and through 3 different speeds without ever getting off the bike. Get two and put one on either side of your TV so you can see what your watching without a fan in the way. Turn them on as you need them, turn them up as you need to.

Instead of buying a fan with a remote I picked up a 3 pack of remote plug switches (this one: https://www.amazon.com/...00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I was using 2 fans when I first picked it up (a regular Lasko pedestal/oscillating type room fan, think it is 12" blades?, in the front and a small floor 11" Honeywell HT-900 fan on the side). Would start with none or just the Honeywell one then eventually turn on the pedestal fan (before I got a direct drive smart trainer the Honeywell fan was used on my fluid2 reservoir to prevent overheating/gasket failure).

But I recently picked up a blower finally which is 1/5 HP rating (not sure on airflow ratings but it can move air without being too loud on highest setting which has 3 speeds). Can't beat the price I paid either as I found it in an outlet store that deals only in factory returns/refurbish/damaged/overstock/etc items. Used a promo coupon and paid $24+tax. Too hard to not pass that up (note: the store also has 1/4 hp versions of the fan but there would've been $40 +tax with the coupon). Eventually once it is not so nice outside I'll get back to training indoors but I probably won't be wishing so much for another fan when I do (for now I have it set on the middle dial).

Train in the garage. Finally ditched the desk fan and got an 18" floor fan (on a chair) always used on Max (3). I keep the main door tilted open, and if I want even more circulation I can open the back garage service door.

29 years and counting

+1 for the Lasko blower. What would really be ideal is simulation of outside winds while riding indoor, and that's the the Lasko blower provides. The coverage isn't as good, but you definitely get sufficient cooling. I've found that torso and head are two regions that really benefit from high velocity wind, and by focusing the blower on just those two locations, I get most of the benefits.

Also have a box fan, but those don't do much. Thinking of getting another Lasko blower in the near future

The advantage of the Lasko type fan is that it moves an incredible volume of air in a focused beam. You literally get a 20 mph air flow aimed at and passing over your body. At a typical distance, it hits your entire torso. I find I have to keep it mostly off my face or I have to where glasses to keep my contacts from drying out - it is literally like riding outside at 20+ mph. (The Lasko type blower is also is strong enough and has enough volume to create an airflow in the entire room if it is not too big so you do have airflow over your entire body). True, you could recreate this affect with a 60+" industrial axial but that is both more expensive and takes up a lot more room.

My Lasko is so good at cooling that in the winter when my basement is in the high sixty's, I can't even turn it on until 10 minutes into a ride.
