I had to attend an out of town wedding so missed the live play of Kona. Looking at the results it seems that LVL had one of the top swim splits but then didn't start out on the bike. Mechanical problems? Anyone know?

He didn't finish the bike. He was unable to keep pace with the main groups. According to ironmanlive, he rode a good portion of the bike near the lead women.
One website reported that Luc's achilles tendon flarred up early in the bike (he had it operated on earlier in the year -- maybe even a couple times.)
He was the 3rd real contender on to the bike, but was spinning a very fast cadence in a low gear and losing chunks of time right from the start of the bike.
It's really too bad! He was not far back from Beke in an olympic distance tri in Belgium around August.
I was bummed to see in the pre-race interviews that Luc still has hopes of racing short and qualifying for the Olympics. I just wish he would get healthy and focus on Ironman.
