What front end bike set up for Alcatraz?
I'm a UK triathlete travelling to SF for the Escape from Alcatraz Tri. I read with some apprehension that the bike course is 'the hardest bike course you'll ever ride....hills, hills and more hills.' I ride a 76 deg seat angle bike and was wondering whether I should use drops and a shorty tri bar as am likely to be out of the saddle climbing all the time or to stick with pursuit base bar and tri bars and attempt to spin up the hills? I was hoping for some advice from ex-cons and those with local knowledge,

Thanks in anticipation,

Matt

I did Alcatraz last year and it is a must do race. Absolutely amazing. I used (and recommend) the drops and shorty aerobars. The climbs are short and steep but there is a lot of cornering. I used a road bike in the ITU configuration. A Cervelo Soloist would eat this course for lunch.
