Hi
I’m currently looking for a Tri-bike for an Ironman Copenhagen (pretty flat course) I don’t want to break the bank, so I’m looking for bikes under about 4k €. I’m pretty keen on the Canyon Speedmax as it seems like a good “bang or the buck”. I’m 35 years, 187cm and weigh in at 73kg - expecting to finish the bike in less than 5h30min. So just an amateur in OK shape.
I pretty much narrowed it down to 5 “models” (see attached)
The cheapest being the CF 7.0 with 105 gear-group at 2.999€. Going up a step to CF 8.0 getting the Ultegra gear-group, I don’t think that +200€ is worth the upgrade (not faster). And for additional 200€ or 400€ up from the CF 7.0, the upgrade is Ultegra + DT Swiss ARC wheels instead of Reynolds AR58. Again I’m not sure that there is any difference in speed or noticeable difference between the wheel set on this and the cheapest?
Going further up the price-latter I think the difference is much more noticeable. For +700€ I get DISC brakes, and with pretty much all new bikes coming out with DISC brakes, I think it’s more “future-proof” and would also make it possible to change wheels on a race-bike with disc brakes.
Then the most expensive in this range-group is the CF 8.0 with Di2 and Swiss ARC. But is it really worth spending 1.100€ extra just to get electronic shifting??
All bikes are equally fast, same geometry, and will get me to the bike finish-line in the same time. So is the upgrades really worth it???
Should I go for the cheapest CF 7.0 and instead use a couple of hundred € on other upgrades, that will make it either more comfortable or more aero? Hydration-system etc.
Hope you can help me, make up my mind :-)
