What Are You Doing on Kona Day ?
Last 15 years I have only done three things on Kona day:
  1. Sit on a computer from noon EST to midnight on the live coverage (plus banter on ST)
  2. Volunteered onsite (that's actually the most fun of all options)
  3. actually be one of the people racing (most rewarding, probably least fun)

What is everyone doing this year? Endless Kona reruns while on the trainer? One of my friends who qualified is doing a 4km run-180km bike-42.2km run since she can't get to a pool on Saturday.

So I guess I need to figure out if there is a workout option that I should go for, since options 1 to 3 are not on this year :-(. Motivation is in the tank for biking and running recently too, so maybe a 2x3800m swim, 18km bike and 4.2km run :-) But looks like we have a no rain morning, so I should get off ST and on the bike and pretend like it is the QueenK. But it sure would be more fun standing at an aid station on the top of Palani waiting for Macca to attack Ralaert on the way down!

Slept in till 8. Sipping coffee. Probably going to go on an easy 10k run. Then coaching my 10 year old’s little league game this afternoon.

Some minor variation of this^^^^^^, which is what I do about every Saturday, “Kona” or not.

Watch the swim and beginning of bike with breakfast and coffee.

Go for a bike ride.

Watch them get off the bike and start the run.

Go for a run.

Watch the last hour or so and the finishes.

Every year. Except this year.

Banana bread for breakfast and watching several of my favorite vintage NBC Kona broadcasts which I very rarely watch. As for training, doing the same thing I've done nearly every Sa & Su this year, a 10 mile trail run.

Aloha!

My past 30+ years have revolved around Kona.

Today, we have tropical storm Delta moving through. My daughter and I did a 3k open water swim. Now heading out on my mountain bike for a VERY wet ride!

Roll on!

Watching my sons soccer games and then get a run in. Trying to not wallow in what should have been my first trip to Kona. Next year.

I busted my ass to run sub 8 min/mile for 7 miles this morning. I haven't done that in quite awhile. 8 minutes per mile was my easy pace 35 years ago. Going on a color tour walk with the grandkids soon here in upper Michigan.

Today would have been the 17th year for us timing the event, bittersweet since I would have been at the start line this year! Kept fit and did a 100km bike ride this morning, now watching last years replay on Ironman now! Bittersweet for sure for many on this forum!

Swam from Alcatraz. SF Bay was a tad colder than Kona :)

2:15:00 on the trainer
30:00 run off
1850 recovery swim
20:00 strength

Missing the Kona coverage we would be glued to throughout the day. Reminiscing 2014 - being there in person to witness the incredible women's race, volunteering the finish line at midnight and getting married on the beach the next morning.

Well I ended up spending all morning in my basement office working on a customer proposal with one of my employees overseas who is 8 hrs ahead of us....so by the time I got out it was already noon....then 70km hilly and windy ride (oh man, wind was worse than Hawi today), then 10km run and a snack, rushed to the pool for my slot, then 2800m swim. Now gonna watch the Giro, have dinner and get back to proposal writing rather than follow Jan and Lange on the Kona run :-(

Well you will get your turn on the start line next Oct if the world can clamp down and get this virus under some semblance of manageability! It's crazy how much the world changed from Feb to end of March....but then April to Oct, seems like progress towards getting to the point that we can race and travel is fairly limited....let's hope the next two six month blocks gets us to the point that is dramatically different in a positive way from where we are today!

I’m recovering from minor dermatology surgery this week but I was able to do 10 miles on Zwift today watching the 2019 Kona broadcast. It’s been raining pretty much all day here so now it’s time for a glass of wine.

Same ol Saturday, ride and run. Reminiscing about doing the race last year. Hate I’m not watching it on computer this year.

I slept in until almost noon today after a long night with our Pod friends.

Watched a recording of the Formula 1 Eifel GP Qualifying. Hulk is in the pink Mercedes tomorrow.

Ate a cold cinnamon bun.

Got a shower to shake off the hangover.

Ate Saag Paneer and rice for lunch.

Drove 45 mins and listened to a pod cast.

I rode my bike around Valley Forge National Park. Puked.

I ran on the SRT after that. Puked again.

Drove 45 mins and listened to a pod cast.

Came home and ate salmon, rice, and veggies.

Watched a Hallmark Channel show with the girls.

Now I am here.
