What's better aero - behind seat or in bottle
Quote | Reply
Hi all

Quick question, and for context this refers to a Cervelo P2. What's a better aero position - spares/tools behind seat attached to rear bottle holder or in a bottle (perhaps aero bottle) on down tube?

Thanks
Von

This isn't directly answering your question, but the best option is probably one that you didn't mention. While I don't think its been tested, this custom frame storage by Slowtwitch user YannB would likely be the fastest, or at least the most neutral, storage for the p2/p3. It does cost significantly more but if you want the best that's probably it.

In answer to your question I would say a kit tucked as well up under your saddle as possible is probably faster than something on the downtube. But then again I just have never been a big fan of any type of bottle on the downtube, even aero ones.

We did some public testing on water bottle location - can be found here:

It is a little individual but those results are generally true for most riders and setups.

Have read this page before, and a question it raised: Previous readings on seat tube vs down tube would have convinced me that the down tube was better. But your results are the opposite. Do you think this is case-specific? (i.e. related to the choice of frame, wheels, etc)

Great, thanks. Currently I've got everything stashed in between the bottle cage and the seat. Do you think under the seat is more aero?
