VIRTUAL RUN TO SUPPORT CORONAVIRUS

The Coronavirus Run is a fundraising event to benefit the CDC's Coronavirus emergency response fund.

We are coming together to give hope to the individuals and families impacted by the virus, and to provide support to the medical institutions on the front lines. With so many charity events, races, and run/walks cancelled, we would like to invite the greater community to join us in helping to provide relief for CONVID-19.

On Friday, May 1st we will be heading outside for a 1 hour run or walk to benefit the CDC's Coronavirus emergency response fund. With your participation, we will be directly helping communities prevent, detect and respond to COVID-19. The funding will be used to deploy emergency staffing, to deliver critical food and medical needs to quarantined individuals, and to build capacity and infrastructure for response efforts.

How to participate:
  • Register on the run website
  • On Friday, May 1st go for an hour long run or walk
  • Participants should share their run or walk on social media
  • Exercise should be completed safely, and within the guidelines of the CDC's recommendations

***While most state's "Stay-at-Home" mandates specifically allow for 1 hour of outdoor exercise per day, it is extremely important that all participants follow the laws of their local authorities. By registering and participating in this event, you agree to follow the laws of your local municipalities and that you fully understand the risks of going outside. The registrant is therefore fully responsible for their health in signing up and participating.

Here are some general guidelines for exercising outside during Coronavirus;
  • Choose a local route and go for no more than 60 minutes
  • Go alone, during non-crowded times
  • Refrain from spitting or excessive coughing
  • DO NOT go outside if feeling sick

Overall, be sure to check your local public health recommendations and the current health mandates in your area, found on your state and local government website before heading outside for a solo workout.

IDK how a $20 virtual race entry is going to do anything. They are being awarded $500M+. These type of things always strike me as a plea for attention.

If you want to be helpful, donate the masks/sanitizer that are being hoarded to local hospitals and health care professionals who actually need them.

Per the CDC: "To support governmental public health emergency response to COVID-19, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has activated CDC-RFA-TP18-1802 Cooperative Agreement for Emergency Response: Public Health Crisis Response. CDC is awarding funding, totaling $569,822,380, under Components A and B to the 65 eligible jurisdictions that are on the approved but unfunded (ABU) list for CDC-RFA-TP18-1802 to provide resources to prevent, prepare for, and respond to COVID-19."

Thanks for your thoughts.

Registration fee is $20, but participants have the ability to donate more.

If everyone who had a race cancelled signed up, it would result in a significant amount of money. If a good amount of individuals who don't run but like to participate in run/walk's for charity, it would result in a very significant amount of money.

This is a great way for our community to come together to make a difference.

You're right, but why say it? Things like this make people feel connected to a cause and gives them hope. Let's all make some masks!
