Vittorias with latex internals haven't been super reliable for me. I did like the EVO Tri when I rode them.

I mounted up a set of Tufo 28c's - and found them to be great tires.
Bought another pair for second set of wheels.

I've personally always run Vittoria Corsa with sealant and haven't trusted the Speeds but never had any issues.

Agree with the others, Vittoria Corsa. Great tire which contains latex tubes. I have been happy to run the multiple variations of the standard Corsa model for 10 plus years. Have not tried the SL/Speed versions.

Tufo tires are very slow.

Excel have the G+ tubulars at $58. I don't know if the G2.0 are any different/better, but I have the G2.0 tubeless and they feel similar to the G+ tubular. Neither feel as good as the older corsa CXIIIs that I loved. (I recognise that perception does not equal speed, but it does make me hold back a bit on hard cornering). A teammate has the Corsa controls and raves about them. Giving up a very small extra drag for increased confidence could be well worth it.

Best value training and rougher-road racing tires are, IMO, the conti sprinters in 25 mm. Can find then for about $45. Good durability and solid handling.


Bontrager have the r4 tubular on sale at half-price. I think they are made by Vittoria and should be similar to the corsas. Anyone have them or can confirm this? Great deal.

That may be changing.

The Calibra Lite (clincher) scores pretty well according to Aerocoach. Faster than, say, the Turbo Cotton. Or even the Schwalbe Pro One TT, which is a really fast tire.

I've heard anecdotally that the tubulars used by Tufo pros are way faster than prior Tufo tubulars, but no idea if that change is legit, or has made it to the retail tubulars yet.

x2 on Corsa Speed tubbies - I use them for outdoor track, and they've been great.

They sure don't last very long (I go through multiple per season, and I don't do a ton of training miles on the track). But no problem otherwise.

What do you mean by best? The stats show the Corsa Speed is the fastest, but if you look at my 70/3/Ironman bike splits, the slowest ones have been with Corsa Speeds as I flatted numerous times! For sprint/OD or longer races on great roads with little debris go Corsa Speed. Otherwise I'd go Continental Competition. I don't think you can get them with latex tubes though, unless you can get hold of the pro version.

And why I've never trusted racing them. Never had a flat with the standard Corsa graphine model and a front puncture that sealed without stopping with the Corsa CX III in my years racing triathlons.

This is our choice for longer half to full races. Very reasonably proven protection over the past 3-4 years with myself and a couple other ludites who still run tubulars.

For sure. I was actually in Churchill Cycles yesterday chatting to Matt Illingworth (Olympic time trialer and triathlete) and he said he raced these tyres on the road. He did say he'd flatted a few times on them though.

I guess it depends how much you're racing and how much training you've put in. For a lot of us we do maybe 3 big races a year, 3 months training and is it really worth running the risk of a flat? In a 70.3 that would cost me 3 minutes, that's 3 months of getting up at 5am to swim gone down the drain! If I was racing every month then sure I'd take the risk.

You may put super fast tyres onto you race wheels with clinchers for select races but with tubs once they are glued on they come off when they are done. I am not going to remove and glue new tubs on every other week. Vittoria Corsa on my tubs and Continental GP5000 on my clinchers set and forget...

I've just sold my TT bike and both sets of tubular wheels, new TT bike has clincher/tubeless wheels. I haven't ridden clinchers for 4 years and tubeless sound like a PITA.

I have no idea where they fit in on the speed chart but FMBs Paris Roubaix in the 27mm sure are the cats whiskers for ride comfort.
