Translate Watts to time?

OK. I dug around a bit on the forums and apologize in advance if this was posted/debated elsewhere.

What is a Watt worth in time? I know its a loaded question. The source of this was a debate over time saved on better tires which resulted in me finding this evidence.

IE. Continental Gaterskin VS Continental 4000. One having being 7.3 watts slower than the other.

My question is, what does that 7.3 watts really mean in terms of time?


I found this nifty site and plugged in some numbers.

Shows that I'd pick up about 90 seconds over 56 miles with my weight etc.


Does that sound about right? Is there another way to think about this?

I believe the rule of thumb is every 10 watts saves you 45-60 seconds over a 40K.

Feel free forum folks to correct me if I am wrong.
