Track tubular tire question after TradeInn mixup

So long story short, I ordered Vittoria Pista Oro 23mm tubular tire for track nationals but after sitting in customs for over a month I discovered they sent 19’s instead of the 23s. I don’t think they can fix the issue before track nationals if they and customs continue to operate on this timeline. Any thoughts on what would be best for an freshly resurfaced outdoor concrete 333m track? Thanks!

Options: I can run that 19mm Pista Oro on the rear disc or I can quickly get a Veloflex record 23mm or other fast tubular before I leave for T-town. They are being glued to an older Zipp 900 disc if that makes a difference.

Other than that track having a little bump (I'm thinking turn 1) it was a pretty smooth track last year. I use the Vittoria Pista and would have no problem using the Pista Speed.

I've never used or even handled the Oro but I don't think it'll be a problem at that track.

FYI - The T-town track was completely refinished this year, so I would expect those minor imperfections are gone.

Thanks, I heard but I haven't seen it yet. I'll might travel with our Juniors to Nats if I can get the time off work.

Man those Oro's are so thin. Even thinner than the old Pista's and those were already pretty dang thin... I'd sweat them even touching the ground off a wood track... but there is little doubt they'll be the lowest rolling resistance.

*also, F tradeinn... the longest I've ever waited on anything to ship. Comically long.

The Veloflex has tested well and I ran a clincher version at Alkek for a 200 and 500 TT two weeks ago. Held up just fine, note I would not do warm up and roll around a lot on it. For reference, Alkek is significantly bumpier that TTown.

19 on the rear does not sound like the best idea IMO.

Alternative is run Pista Speed. Should be just fine at TTown.

I have the Oro's but haven't run them outside and don't plan to...

I sweat every time, but I've done it and lived to tell about it a few times.

Personally, in the same situation, I'd use the Oro for timed events, and the other wheel with 23mm sane tire for mass start events. If that's an option.

T-Town!! I grew up racing there! There's not much to worry about with the track surface, especially this year with the fresh resurfacing. It is much much less abrasive than even the best road surface, and importantly is free of puncture-causing road debris. We've run the thinnest of TUFO and Vittoria tyres there and they lasted the better part of a racing season.

I'd have zero concerns running a 19mm specialist tyre on the rear. Use a training wheel for warmups and the race wheel for racing/rollers.

Thanks all. Unfortunately the schedule seems to not be ideal of switching tubulars around. IP, Omnium, TP and mass start. At this point and figuring that I won’t touch Lambie, Sheffield Croom or Seggebruch after being sick for most of June, I’ll just roll the Veloflex and try to return the Oro’s. The TradeInn customer service also appears to be a joke for what’s it worth. 0/10 would recommend shopping there.

I dealt with one of there partners BikeInn once...and only once. Never again, they're even worse than BikeBling.

I'm pretty sure I put a Pista Speed tub on the HED 3 that I sold a a trackie about 2 years back. I rode that once outdoors on a very nice road for a TT. I thought it was a pretty good tire.

I think I ran it in a 19 though, not a 23. The HED 3 I had came with a 23mm dimpled Zipp tire or something that looked like a balloon pumped up on it.

This was out of issue not finding fast tires in 19mm in a tub at the time. Everything was a 23.

My Zipp 900 was doing double duty for a while so it has a couple year old 23mm Pista Speed that has one slice that was filled with super glue but still holds air from when I set the the Blue Streak TT course record a couple years back now. That’s another option if I really want to push my luck and not buy another tire for nationals.

Of course! I’m heading to amateur road nationals next week so they even offered to hold the shipment until I get back so they aren’t sitting out. Super considerate and best customer service that I’ve experienced in a very long time.

TradeInn/BikeInn customer service is being an absolute PITA so I’m going to try to sell them for what I have into them for the tires, shipping and customs. Which is still slightly cheaper than what they are listed at on the Vittoria US website or Nashbar I’ll send you an email.

What does "customs" have to do with the tires' cost?

The month wait time they sat in the customs warehouse and the fees they accessed to me importing goods.
