I think 2004 was more boring.
if you forget the race for the win which was sealed early, there was a lot going on besides this.

And in the obscure records category, LA's 7 consecutive wins also single-handedly ties the record for consecutive wins by fellow countrymen. Belgium also had 7 consecutive winners from 1912 to 1922 (no race 1915-18).

You must have been watching a different race, or somehow thought the BBQ Challenge was the tour. Wow.

Pretty amazing to consider that the yellow jersey was worn by Americans in all but one stage. Zabriskie in the yellow early. Lance pretty much throughout. Armstrong, Hincapie, Jullich, Landis, etc, etc,...

Was this the best American showing ever in the Tour? Sure seems like it.

Slowguy

(insert pithy phrase here...)

Totally agree. 2005 was a snorefest. Actually, I'd say it was one of the most boring tours I've ever watched. The last time trial was really the only stage that had me riveted down.

I'm looking forward to 06 - hopefully because no one will have full control of the peleton at all times.

What about Jeff Pierce (final stage), Andy Hampston (Alp D'uez), and Davis Phinney? Jeese, I bet you don't remember weekly 30 minute CBS broadcasts with John Tesh soundtracks?

Pierce (on the Champs), Phinney (2), Hampsten (on L'Alpe)

A few more Posties if you count TTT victories as stage wins.

Frankie Andreu got pretty close on the Champs one year, but no cigar.
