Torque Wrenches

Aside from the Park Tools torque wrenches are there any other wrenches out there that are reasonable cost and work well for bike fixing? What exactly do i need to do things like swap derailleurs, install brackets and tighten stems?

I use the Silca T-Ratchet + TI - Torque Kit for everything up to 8 nm on all my bikes. Works well. For everything over that I have a Park Tool beam style wrench.

As broken as the search function is, sometimes it delivers. There was a thread about this exact topic going last week.

I got one of the Pro Bike Tool torque wrenches a couple months ago and it's been great thus far! Before this one, I had another one that seems to be the generic design that I bought from one of the UK sites (PBK or, Chainreaction, Wiggle, etc.). It was complete rubbish and it broke after having it for a couple months.

My daily wrenches
Park 12-60Nm
And effetto moriposo 2-16 Nm
If you are just doing stems, mounting bolts etc the 2-16 will do it.

I've had this Venzo for 2 years. When originally purchased, I brought it in to work and tested it against our torque wrench calibrator. It was spot on. I should recheck it now that I've used it awhile.

He posted the same on my thread about cost conscious torque wrenches. I think the premise of his answer stems from the fact that mosr things don't need super accurate toghtening? I'm also guessing that most of us are aware when something is overtightened?

Because you prefer to crack your frame instead?

Agreed. Frankly, if I had not used torque wrenches many warranties would be invalid, so a pretty irresponsible response. Even if one feels his senses beat a torque wrench in accuracy, that is plainly idiotic. Glad he isn't in aviation....

I have a couple, and use them to manufacturer specs.

i have the Park tw-5, the big Park beam jobby and two of these:

i leave one in the car and carry the other in my pack. i've been looking for higher bits like a 20Nm but the majority are
in inch-pounds which is annoying(i'm too lazy to print out a table from excel):

what's great about torque limiting bits is you can't exceed the setting since it spins freely once you hit the limit.
the topeak kit is nice as it has most of the ones you'd want while out on the road(4, 5, and 6, i need a 10Nm for my thru-axles)

I don't actually ever know how fast I'm going. I only know that if I'm in 53/11, and it takes more than 100rpm to hit my target watts, it's time to coast." - Jordan Rapp on '09 IMC
