Slow person chiming in but I was pretty happy with yesterday's workout
LCM
400 w/u with center mount snorkel
2 X 500 20" rest
2 X 400 15"
2 X 300 10"
100 c/d total 2900

converting to yards, averaged T-pace for whole thing and was longest swim I've done since starting back up a month ago. Time to do a T-test

I never noticed this thread before. Monday: 1700 yds - 400 wu, 3 x 100 @ 30 seconds at 100% effort, 200 easy, 2 x 200 @ 30 secs at 100% effort, 400 cooldown

Ya, it is a cool space for the fishes to come to and pretend we are in one big giant masters workout. We have our lane one guys, SH, realbertan, watertime, and a few others, and then you have the old 55+ lane with steve and ken leading, and me and jbank drafting off them, and a whole collection of womens that can jump in any lane they want. We also have lane 2, 3, 4, 5, and on down to wherever you need to be. Also a great place to get $100's of dollars of free coaching if you want too..

if you have a mind block of what to do that day, It is a great place to pinch a workout too.

Thanks Monty! My coach is a masters coach so I dont lack for workouts (though she does only have me swimming 2-3x a week, I expected her to drown me). Im definitely a lane 8 (or 9) person, speed is very slowly coming up, but at least its coming. Some day I'll be almost passable.

On the one hand, I'm flattered that you put me in the same category as being able to draft with you. On the other hand,
I'm not even 40 yet, but I think you just called me 55+! And here I thought all this exercise was supposed to keep you

Took yesterday off, had to meet with contractors about planning a house reno - we desperately need to add on about 500 sq ft at a reasonable budget. Thoroughly depressing.

Got into the pool today for an hour, guesstimating at 2500 scm. I don't remember exactly what I did, but my fitness seems to be progressing. I could handle a main set of 8x50 on 1:00, holding 35's and 36's for all of them, the last 2 I came in at :34 . Overall it wasn't too bad for 3 weeks into my return to swimming.

I inquired about joining up with the masters program at my pool, miraculously all of their practice times appear to fit into my schedule except for a minor conflict on Saturday mornings. Their program goes from Sep to June, so I need to talk to the supervisor tomorrow to see if they'll cut me a deal on prorating the annual fee (it's only $175 on top of the regular membership dues, but they "should" be able to cut me some kind of a deal.

2400scy (Then on to the trainer for 30 min of light/steady spinning. Patellar tendon allowed it :) Can still tell it's not 100%, but hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to tell that the spinning helped and not hindered. Maybe one more week...)

EDIT: I bring a wrench with me to the pool. Today I was asked for the 2nd time what special drill I used this for (You swim with a wrench?! How does that work?). To tighten the lane ropes, I said! The lane lines are left loose enough that they can be removed by hand without loosening them...This makes it easier for the 60min, 3-4x/week, aqua aerobics instructor to remove them. It is very annoying because the lane ropes are all over the place smacking into everyone constantly. It took a 6 month battle with the manager of the 24hr fitness to get him to stop harassing us for tightening them...

Got a new (to me) wetsuit that I wanted to try out from ST classifieds (Tyr Hurricane 5) and
gave it a whirl this morning at masters (with a few snarky comments from the normal non-wetsuited
folks).

WU: 400, 8x100 {25 scull, 25 kick, 50 drill}
Main: 10x50 { 3-6-3 bk/bk }
2x100desc @1:30 (1:02,1:01), 3x75 build @1:10, 50 sprint@1:00, 3x75 build@1:10, 2x100 asc@1:30 (1:03,1:04)
2600 scy

The suit seemed fast, but with the pool at 82, I got hot pretty quick and called it in early before I dehydrated too
badly. I was feeling pretty worn down at the end and this was lower than normal yardage for me. Hopefully it
was just the overheating and not something else about the suit. It certainly felt tight and I believe those who
say this suit sizes are on the small side. My normal "fast" 100 is about 1:07/8, so I'm guessing the suit
is giving me 6-7 seconds/100. I found that in my initial warmup 400, I was cruising at sub 1:10/100 pace with
what felt like an easy distance pace.

Last night (4/13)
LCM 2300
400 S 4X50 build :15 300 P
300 P :20
4X50 hard :15
300 P :20
2X50 hard :15
300 P :20
2X50 hard :15
100 c/d

So fishies- why would I be almost 10 sec/100 SLOWER while pulling? It felt like body position and that I got popped so high in the water that my stroke mechanics just sucked. Rotation and pull felt like a wet noodle. I don't kick that much except when swimming hard so that was not a big contributing factor. The 4th one was the best as I flipped the pull buoy over and don't think I was quite as high in the water. My sister, the fishie in the family, says that my body position is generally fine so that may have been what threw everything off but ???

So i got in last tuesday after cramming for two weeks with dan and felt like total shit. Did some pace 100's and struggled to do 1;18. So i decided i had enough base and took the next 3 days off completely. Day one of the meet was like the 1st week of winter again here. I have 6 inches of snow on my truck this morning and drove into the darkness towards the meet. A little cold, but at least the snow and rain were gone, had no idea how i was going to swim, 1st event 200 breastroke;

Out in 37 high, 41 flat, 39 high, 39 low for a 2;38.05.. Backing out the start, once again i negative split a swim race. I really am a dork triathlete after all i guess. Kind of fun being last at the 100 and passing all but one sandbagger(entered a 2;50 and went a 2;24), and got 3rd overall in the AG. Unfortunately the fastest 55+ guy in the world just happens to be on my team, so everyone swims for 2nd in his events.

Next up was 100 fly, but due to the large # of cancellations, there were just 2 heats of women before the men were up. I swear my HR was still over 110 on the blocks and i knew it was going to be a bad one. Struggled out in 30.7 and felt like the end of a 200 for the 35+ 2nd 50, for a 1;06 flat. Oh well..

Last event was the 50 fly, had plenty of rest, and really wanted to redeem myself from the 100. 28.46, so pretty good, as i have been swimming 28 low for the last 25 years or so. Good enough for 3rd..

SO for now i own swt-wtr in the 200 breast(.3sec) and we will not talk about the rest. Tomorrow 1st event is the 400IM, then 200fly, then 200IM, plus a relay or two. Should be interesting, but at least i know i'm somewhat rested and could have good swims..
200brst- 2;38.05
100fly-1;06.04
50fly-28.46

There is a msters meet coming up in a couple of weeks, should I do it? My times won't be all that good, but i think i can fake my way hrough a 100. I just don't know if i'm prepared to see how slow I really am!

No swimming the last couple of days, work got in the way, and laying cedar mulch in the flowerbeds today. Back in the pool tomorrow am before i have to clean for our open house.
