This is Starky's year!
People who saw him in Galveston this weekend said he looked leaner. More triathlete, less MMA fighter.

So maybe a couple of sub 3:00 marathons after his standard huge bike?

He is already qualified for kona and 70.3 worlds, so he does have a great chance to plan his season accordingly.

Tad

It took awhile, but I finally discovered that its not the destination that's important, but rather the journey.

Maybe Starky and Lionel can have an Iron War in Kona this year?

As unlikely as it is, I would actually love this. Create a huge gap on the bike and then see who can push themselves further as others are closing the gap on the run.

Anyone know his racing plans for the rest of the year?

Yes, they will definitely out bike Cam Wurf, just like Starky did last year :)

I *think* with a well-executed season and race day Starky and Wurf come off the bike together. But your point is a valid one. I was thinking top 15 at Kona would be great. The title of the thread was a little bit of Hyperbole.

That reminds me of all the times I heard that this was the year for Jay Cutler and Tony Romo...

LOL

Even better if the three finish the bike together and duke it out on the run

Lionel has been first or second in 23 out of the last 24 full/half races he competed in. Would take quite the bike and speed walk to get that kind of record

He has competed in 23 races since IMWC 2018?

Are you suggesting that there is a good chance that Starky and LS are going to come off the bike together and then run side by side and then finish 1/2?

Cam has openly said he eased up on the bike to not destroy his run in several podcasts and other interviews.

Who's this Lionel guy?

I really hope Starky can go top 5 or even top 3. I like him and he had 2 great races in New Zealand a few months ago and then last weekend in USA.

He isn't the boring Vanilla tri pro. for that alone I'd like him to get a few big wins.

He's been 1 or 2 a lot but not 23 out of 24.

In Kona alone he fails on that and there there was the 70.3 in australia where he came 30th or something

No, IMWC 2018 was the one he didn't finish in the top 2. Hence 23 out of 24. Notice there's 1 missing in "23 out of 24."

And no, I didn't suggest "that there is a good chance" since I literally said "As unlikely as it is, I would actually love this." above

Which race in Australia is missing from this list? https://www.lsanderstri.com/results

I count 23 of the last 24. Kona 2018 being the only one out of 24 races all the way back to 70.3 worlds in 2016

Yep the worlds he came 9th

Anyway I went back on athlinks and his last 24 races whilst extremely impressive, your claim of 23 out of 24 either first or second is incorrect.

The stat you should have gone with is 19 out of 24 either first or second.

2018
indian Wells 1st
Kona 30th
Mont IM 2nd
Mont 70.3 1st
st G 1st
ocean 2nd
Pucon 1st
IMAZ 1st
2017
Kona 2nd
Mont 70.3 1st
st G 2nd
Buenos Aires 703 1st
Pucon 1st
IMAZ 1st
2016
Kona 29th
70.3 Worlds 9th
Racine 2nd
Mont 70.3 1st
St George 1st
Texas 1st
Oceanside 1st
2015
IMAZ 1st
Kona 14th
Mont T 5th

Yep, 70.3 Worlds when he got 9th is 25 races back, hence 23 out of 24 (because it doesn't include that race).

Since you didn't click on my link before looking at an incomplete list and saying I'm incorrect, here's the complete list which includes Challenge and ITU long course.

So "the stat I should have gone with" is still 23 out of 24. Not to mention, even if he had gotten 1st/2nd in 19 out of 24 (he didn't), my comment would still stand.

2018
Pucon 70.3 January 14th 3:48:44 1st place

70.3 Worlds 2016 is 21 races back. You counted the races from january to september 2016 to your list which came before 70.3 Worlds.
