Things you wish you would have bought sooner

What tri items did you hold off buying and then finally buy and kick yourself for not doing it years ago?

For me it was a winter kit - just got one this year after over a decade of freezing or sulking on the trainer.

A really good bike rack- bought one a couple years ago. Before I used this crap one a friend rode a bike for like 8 minutes gave me. Don’t even know the brand. Replaced it with my Yakima halfback and Jesus it was just different!

I still lapped everyone on the couch!

Neoprene thermal socks. I got the blue seventy and even use them hiking in sandals when going to be doing lots of creek crossings. Thermal head gear is going to be useful here in WI as open water is gonna be my only water source.

A pretty basic one: indoor trainer took me 3 years to bite the bullet. I went from surviving the ride (then dying on the run) to racing the bike (then surviving on the run).

Thinking this today! I’ve been using mine for a few weeks, and it is so nice to have it.

Ooh. Masterlink pliers are something I forgot. Def a good buy.

Alternatively, a race belt is something I have had forever and forgetting it is one of the worst things ever. I should prolly buy a second one and add that to this list.

Insulated water bottles.

Blower fan for indoor trainer.

Kool stop bead jack (those darn Jet+ wheels on new Conti gp4k tires are a hard combo to mount by hand and same with trainer tires on any rim).

Best thing I did was cut wires and bypass ballast in my two basement lights and changed to LED. I guess now is the best time to work on the garage lights! Much better and saves energy!

complete flat/repair kits for each bike (i have 3 outdoor bikes). not having this take up pocket space and/or not having to remember to move stuff to the bike i'm riding makes a big difference day after day.

Definately the Vasa ergometer. It is no more tedious than swimming in a pool and a hundred times more convenient. You never miss workouts and never had to walk up and see the "Pool is closed for chemical imbalance" sign after you changed over at lunch and wasted time.

Warm winter shoes are a good thing, too.

And any kind of clever bike tool that you did not know existed until someone showed you (others have mentioned the chain link pliers--maybe the best tool ever.) like a rotor tuning fork and the the little brake tool that pulls the cable tight with one hand so you can tighten the bolt with the other.
