Thin Shorty Wetsuit for warmer open water swims
Quote | Reply
Hey guys,

I find that was water temp gets warm where I live there is a time in the year when a full or even sleeveless wetsuit is too hot, but if I go with nothing I end up freezing after 20-30 minutes.

Have any of you guy used this type of 2mm no sleeve, short leg wetsuit. I see this 2mm version from O'Neill:

This is not about speed, just a bit of warmth.

I swim in a Camaro 2mm swimskin and it is awesome. Feels like a fast swinskin designed for swimming and keeps the chill out in a cool outdoor pool. The O'neil one you are looking at may be fine but it is not a swim specific design. The Camaro has a high neck that seals any water getting in.

The other one I have seen is this one.

Actually I am a swimmer trying to stay warm but not use max cheater triathlete floatiness. Mainly want to know about chafing etc and interference with stroke. That's actually how the original guys started using wetsuits (to stay warm) in the early days of the sport before slowman invented suits for racing in tris.

Post in ST classifieds for one of the original B70 swimskins that was made of thin, crushed neoprene (no flotation). I think it was called the Pointzero 3.

OK so what would be a good start is buyancy shorts and cut off the arms of a long wet suit since the crotch and forearm are points we lose load of heat
And as the person said there is usually very cheap neoprene tri swimskins.
In Europe the ones I see most often is the sailfish blade and those can be had for next to nothing.
I think the point zero would be skinnier than the rebel but I would not be too sure .
