depends on the winds and the dynamic of the chase group. Right now the DS for Erdinger has sent Dreitz to the front to ride tempo so I doubt Wurf et al can get much more than they've got.

OTOH, if people start looking around at each other, and some attacks go off the front, Gomez and Lange might sit in with the wrong pack and lose a bit more time.

Either way it won't be enough. We're about to see a running war

If Lange stays with Gomez (which he will try to do) it will be a very interesting marathon. Basically Lange is saying I will get to T2 with you and on your first IMWC you will have to run 2:39 to beat me. Game on!

Now Currie is there or will be there and he can run, Lionel will put everything out after the turnaround. This thing wide open and will be a very close finish.

women's race is shaping up to be pretty interesting... first of all, Mirinda Carfrae made the chase pack and has been sitting in for most of the ride. Next, I think it's like 4th thru 20th in the chase pack, all 12min down on Lucy. I wonder if Sarah True or Mirinda can run their way up to the podium or if the podium is already set

The only one riding faster than Lionel, is Wurf. Lots of racing still left, I thinks still it's too early to write him off.

Somebody up thread predicted a 15 min gap into T2, but I just don't see it happening.

I once crashed in a crit and was given a pit bike. I couldn't hang with the pack after going from my latex and fast tires to the pit bike's gatorskins, lol

The question is will she stay in that pack after the turnaround? The good thing for her is she's not losing massive time this year as the last year she was in Kona. If she stays there a podium is almost sure.

I think some are going to have to attack, and this imo will be when Gomez's "weakness" is shown when ooops he sat on the wrong wheels, as I think some within the group are def going to push the gaps.... but I also think with the gaps where they are and even where they likely are- Lange and Gomez are in really good position that they dont really need to do anything......head down, 11.999m behind guy in front.

I have NO IDEA what I am talking about with this, but when a flat tire is in the first few miles of the race - does it make more sense to just change your own tire than take a neutral support wheel? More time/distance for aero and rolling resistance to make a difference. What do the ST armchair specialists say?

Looked like Lucy was catching some of the pro men. Maybe she can find a group to ride with. Not sure if Ryf and Crowley working together or if Ryf doing everything herself.

Given she has a Xlab BTA on, I'm not convinced she's using the hydration sail at all.

Everything about that sail says "designer has never tried to fill it whilst riding"

I think the way Charles broke that swim open allowed for her to sit on someone's feet on the swim that would otherwise may have been in a bigger group (not sure) but one thing is that apparenty she's been improving quite a bit on the bike (got best bike split at Augusta at least)

yeah, I think Gomez and Lange were the last two on the main chase pack train. Thing is, nobody in front is a threat. This is why I'm lamenting TO not being up there with Amberger.

Sanders is about to make contact with the chase pack, so the dynamic might be changing soon.
