The S5 is here! (Pics)

Now THAT'S aero!

EDIT

You can preview the picture @ cervelo.com but you can't click through yet. It looks like the prices are 3k for the frame and 3.8k for the bike. Not too bad - cheaper than the S3!

They obviously didn't read the post in the thread about lots of used Transitions for sale where someone pointed out that a sloping down tube is unaero. Perhaps they'll fix that for the S6.

Not a bad video though. Same aero blabbing that every company does about how much better/faster/lighter/stiffer their bike is...

I mean, I would use it if they wanted to give me one to try out ;)

I am sure the UCI will find a way to ban it.

Ha, now that's funny. All that work for a bike that clearly is unaero.

Are you sure about those prices? That is a small fraction of the Venge.

Edit: Looks like it's 3800 frameset / 4800 Ultegra build. Same price as Venge frameset.

seems like a lot of work went into the frame and there is still some cable routing that could be tiddied up?

turns out they ship without the cables routed so you can do it however you want

You're right - we wouldn't want to ride it and mess up the "pretty" image we have going...

Why is it they are testing a road bike with a mannequin in a TT position?

Because that is the only mannequin they have

AND I would wager they have a good idea that the interactions of rider and bike are not substantively different enough to make it worth the trouble of scanning DZ again

AND, that position is one of many that road cyclists do in fact use when they ride road bikes (see Fabian winning the classics last year). Had they put a DZ on the hoods you would be complaining why he is in a touring position, had they put DZ in the drops you would be whining that the elbows on basebar is the fastest position so why didn't they do that.

so they did that, and we complain that he is in a tt position =)

the P series bikes have always had level top tubes because that is the most aerodynamic configuration

the S series have always sacrificed some aerodynamics on the top tube for what I assume is front triangle stiffness and flexiblity of sizing because the philosophy of the S series is road bike first, aero second.

that said, I don't care about stiffness and they fit me fine with a flat top tube so if they want to build me a custom one I'm ready to move on that =)

you will notice though that they did manage to make the seat stays attach well below the top tube. that is key.

I figured that all things aside they were only testing the aero dynamics of the bike. So the rider could be in any position and as long as the readings are compared equally (meaning the same position is held for all other test bikes) then the aerodynamics of the S5 could be compared across all other frames...

Essentially bike position is really irrelevant. But i am not engineer or aero expert... barely got through 8th grade science but if all variables are equal then the testing is sound no?

perhaps it will be next, with less fancy carbon at a higher weight, and non integrated fork and cheaper price?
