Yup, that just about sums up this week's ludicrous (or is that ludacrisp, ala Mikey Tyson?) news reports, Dan. Well put.

I'm disappointed about the court ruling in NZ. Being a displaced kiwi (having lived in UK, US and Japan) I often see news reports about court rulings and think that I'm glad that those sorts of things don't happen back home.
Reading a little about it though, it seems that the major factor was that the course was not actually closed though the competitors though that it was, so races that have official road closures will be fine. The ITU Champs in Queenstown will be ok.
Still a disappointing decision though.

Dan and others,
Over the years I have told my children:
"Justice is only a concept."
My brother-in-law died on his motorcycle about 6 weeks ago in a head-on with a teenager driving an SUV. It looks like the still ongoing investigation will show that the 17 year-old driver was picking up CD's that had fallen in the floorboard when she crossed the centerline. It occurred in a 35 mph zone, but in a location where the road was cut through a hill, with steep embankments such that there was no escape.
The point? Beats me. Maybe: be miserly with the energy we expend on what we can't change, like idiots, but be generous when confronted with those who do good things - like Slowtwitch.com - while we have the chance.

Dan, you put it like no one else. Spot on. I hope tomorrow is a better day for all of us.

"Well put."
I agree but wouldn't call it "Slowman on a rant" but "Slowman on a roll". Great editorial.

Excellent point. Slowman on a roll. . .what do you suppose his drag coefficient was? ;>
