Tempe Town Lake temp

Currently the temp is 79 degrees. Any idea if it has a chance to drop 6 degrees over the next 2 weeks to make a wetsuit legal swim? My gut is that it is a longshot.

My money is on wetsuit legal. Can't remember it ever being "not legal." Cooling down a lot in the next two weeks

Not sure about the 70.3, but the full will be wetsuit legal, bank on it.

Mass withdrawals if the full was not wetsuit legal

They will put a glass of ice water in the lake and stick in the thermometer if necessary.
Alternate: they will use the Celsius temperature and mistake it for Fahrenheit.

Swim - Bike - Run the rest is just clothing changes.

Not necessary to do these shenanigans with this particular lake . . . just do an e coli test and cancel the swim if it is too warm for wetsuits.

I would feel so ripped off if my IM was not at least 140.6

The first Cozumel swim was way short. I feel the need to explain that when describing the race to others.

My first marathon was 27.2 miles long. That was very unpleasant as I knew it as I was sure I had seen mile 24 marker twice. It even got written up on the front page of the Chicago Tribune.

One Oly got pretty much all the distances wrong. The run was around 4 miles and just missed qualifying for the Olympic trials in the 10K.

Swim - Bike - Run the rest is just clothing changes.

I can not remember a Soma half which became the Tempe 70.3 or an IMAZ that was not wetsuit legal.

By the time IMAZ rolls in it is always ass cold in that lake (done it 3x). I got forced into the 70.3 by the last year's cancellations, so was not sure if it actually cools down by mid October. I'd assume that it would given that the temps drop at night.

I am thinking that it'd probably still be a sleeveless kinda swim? Anything over 68 is too warm for me to swim in a full suit.

I only race in sleeved wetsuits. Everyone is different, you'll see plenty of sleeveless suits at any race, no matter how hot or cold the water is, at least in the US.

76F this morning. Which is the monthly low, fairly surprised actually since it was pretty hot Thursday and Yesterday.

The overnight temps have started dropping pretty quickly, and thus, the lake temp will go down very quickly over the next few weeks.

Well I live here, so I know all about those temps lol. Makes morning runs much easier. It may be Wetsuit legal next Sunday, but barely. If it does get to 72 that would be nice, but the pool the other day was awful 81F!

Lake is 77. Low on Tuesday will be 48. Lows are below 65 all week. It will be a wetsuit legal swim.

75F right now. Based on the forecast I expect that to drop at least to 73F on race day. Provided the glidepath remains the same.

73F Currently, lows for the week aren't projected to get higher than 63F. So I'd expect it to drop to 71F, Saturday high of 90F will have a limited effect on the lake temp.

Lake Temp is 71F right now. This is wetsuit legal and comfy. It would require the forecast to be completely wrong and us have a massive heat wave for this to turn the other way.

True. At this point I am more concerned about the highs in upper 80s on Sunday :)

Lake temperature has held to 71F, lows for the next three days are: 56F, 61F, 65F. Some heat on Saturday with a high of 96F and Sunday a high of 90F. It shouldn't have much of an affect upon the water, it will be cold for most of the people swimming as it won't heat up until 10-10:30. Biggest issue will be the run for most, but that's IMAZ 70.3 for ya, wetsuit swim with a hot as hell run!
