Everyone has been waiting to see which GC riders will lose how much time on the cobbles of Stage 9. Poor Dan Martin is totally banged up from today's crash. He has to survive through the pave mess before Monday's transfer to Annency to take on the Alps. Hopefully he can make it through. Tuesday evening after Sunday's cobble stage and the first Alpine stage, I guess we find out who the Movistar team leader is, and maybe even about Sky (all the talk about Sky maybe backing Thomas if Froome were to lose time and not have legs post Giro).
I am interested to see how Bardet, Valverde, Nibali and Dumoulin are positioned coming out of Sunday. On paper, these guys have the best shot.
Stage Profile is kind of meaningless as it does not tell the tale of the pave:
Shorter distance than a classic...so I guess pace should be high throughout. Race finishes near the Roubaix Velodrome, not on it.
In the GC, the top riders from Uran to Quintana are in a tight spread of ~80 seconds, but Dan Martin has slipped > 2 min back of Uran.
