Sufferfest Local Hero

Hands down my favorite workout. Great structure and great tunes. When that jam kicks in and the sprints begin...it's the perfect combination of pain and satisfaction.

Fight Club, Angels, and A Very Dark Place have always been my go to when I'm needing about 60 minutes for a work out. ISLAGIATT is great if you need a longer trainer ride. Killer workout!

The 2nd video I bought and one of my favorites when I want a ride over 75 minutes. Otherwise my other favorite is The Hunted. However, I don't own the full set.

This for me too. Honestly with my FTP set correctly I definitely suffer.

am i the only one who struggles sometimes with the intro power requirements? I swear it takes me a few minutes to go to 150 watts, the old pins hate going straight to 150 watts as soon as i hop on the bike

Yep, same here. I ride early in the morning and I have to spin for 10 minutes before I can jump into any Sufferfest video. Maybe it's because I am in M40-44....

JT, I doff my hat to you for getting through the 2 hours of ISLAGIATT at the set levels... For me, I just have to knock off 10% for the first hour or so and then maybe add a bit to 95% for the last hour, but at 100%, I'm GONE..
same as Hell Hath No Fury... that's a 90-95% session right there, but the last 6 min time trial to the end at 100% is pure gold.

The Rookie with basically 3 x 10 min or road racing efforts is my go to session at the moment, with 9 Hammers making an occasional appearance.

what am I saying, they're all great.

Local hero seems to be on the easy side of the sufferfests.

for example nine hammers and long scream are much harder when done with same scaling of sufferscale to watts.

Oh I don't ride 100% of FTP. I try and ride 92-95% for those tt efforts. Basically I try not to be a moron ;)

I leave mine set 100% and just go with it. The warm ups are usually interesting for me. I start them wondering if I'm going to get through the workout, given I feel like I'm struggling to maintain 170ish watts. But by about 20 minutes in, I'm suffering just fine... My FTP is a meager 250w, but I've only been training with power for about a year, and only riding for a year and a half.

I have 12 of the vids. My top ones in order of usage are: Angels 2015, Wretched, Nine Hammers and The Hunted. Though with it getting colder and less daylight, I think Blender and ISLAGIATT will probably start working into the once a week rotation again.

I've started to download Local Hero several times, and then didn't. Since you guys like it, maybe I'll give it a shot.

I bought all of them last year when our team still received a 50% off discount... best $90 I ever spent!

I'm partial to The Rookie as I enjoy the story... which, I know, is like watching porn for the plot. My other favorites are probably The Hunted, Local Hero, HHNF, and ISLAGIATT

IF for Local Hero 0.93. Nine Hammers is 0.91.

Violator for the win at 1.06. Revolver is 1.07 but is less than 60 minutes.

HHNF (pre 2013 or whenever they revised it) has my nomination for hardest sufferfest video. I've never really managed to have a good second 20 minute effort. As far as I remember its the only sufferfest that trainerroad has a warning beforehand.

Personally I like blender and 9 hammers.

This is a bread and butter 2x20 workout with footage from the UCI Women's World Cup courtesy of TheSufferFest.com. This is a VERY hard workout. Don't be afraid to lower the intensity if you're not interested in puking.

You ain't kidding. HHNF is a beast of a workout...I did The Rookie today, and 9 Hammers on Monday. I also like Angels, Giatt, and Blender. They're all good, though...Tough as heck all of them.

I'm about to restart my trainerroad membership and those videos, combined with TR, show now mercy...

I'm pretty new to Sufferfest and have enjoyed them so far but how do you know how hard to go when they set their levels. Like, if they say 7/10, do you do 70% FTP?

Usually FTP is ~7.5. For $10 / month TrainerRoad will tell you exactly how hard to go. Best money you can spend to improve power.

Cool. Yeah, I've seen the match up between the videos and TR but wasn't sure how that worked. Like, how do it know? :) (since one is a program that just "runs" and the other is a video that just "runs")

You load the workout in TR and then just drop the video from your computer into the workout. You start pedaling and it starts / syncs the video. It's all seamless. Next time you do the workout it remembers the video so you only have to match them up once.

It doesn't really strike me as a classic 2x20. The first one is effectively 32-34 minutes or so long (the warmup runs straight into it, and the last while of the warmup is already .9 IF or so). It spends a good bit of the second half of it at 105% ish if I remember correctly. Not to say that it isn't a good workout, I've ended up laying on the floor gasping after the first interval more than once.

Oh, cool.

Been debating between Zwift and TR (since I already have some Sufferfest videos), but that might be the thing that pushes me to TR.
