This coverage is awesome. I'm still not totally thrilled that this is not happening man to man in a straight up race, but hey if he can do it, then it would still be pretty cool.

Unbelievable, 300k now and it's 0830 in the morning.

The speed they run is mind bending. I can't comprehend it.

Also I am not a fan of the team that switches over. Everyone should just run the entire race (or as much as possible) and drop out when they are done...at least use the same standard rules that are used in an IAAF event. This would be like Froome getting new team members every few days in the tour de France. Now it feels like an even more bogus stunt. I still want him to do 1:59.59, but the bending of standard sporting norms does not sit well.

I don't understand that. It's not about records. It's about showing someone can run that speed for two hours.

Next step is to do it under normal conditions.

No one has said it's a WR or official or anything.

It's a phenomenal effort.

With 330k watching on YouTube, and many at the venue cheering.

I find it really nice.

For the win.

For those saying, "its not for the record, its to show that it's possible". Well I think we all know it is possible if you do everything possible to remove the normal barriers to getting it done. If we're going to do all the V shaped pacer thing, why not just use an electric car with a big draft zone and have him run as close to that as possible? The wing men are not doing anythinig remotely the same as in a real event if they can rotate in and out....just use a pace car and call it done.

The commentators are talking about changing history, but if you're doing a cheater path (relative to a real race) to changing history is it really? Should we do a staged Ironman world record where the guy who sets the new benchmark drafts the swim (legal...but let's build him a big draft group), legally drafts the bike with rotating domestiques and legally drafts the run with rotating wingmen? I think Daniela could go sub 8 hrs if we gave her that.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing what happens in real marathons if he is successful today.I am wondering if the mental barrier will be broken and sub 2hr will become something we see as somewhat "normal" in certain races. That to me holds a lot of value in this challenge.

dev...apparently too close to the car for a runner is no good either. I know it's good for a cyclist having gone over 70kph into a headwind behind a truck, but read somewhere there is air disturbance at the running speeds for a runner.

It’s the same stunt they did last year except on the streets. This has never been about a world record performance or anything resembling that. If you were expecting that you haven’t been paying attention It’s about being the first person to go under two hours and for Nike to design and sell some damn good shoes. If all that come out of it is the new race shoes and the roll down tech from that. More power to them. The shoes themselves have made these efforts worth it.

Bingo!
They say it very openly it is not a true WR. But this will lead the way for getting that done later!

Amazing speed, it looks like a relaxed 2 hour sprint

Its 🤯even orchestrated like this, just a pity t berlin is so close to breaking it with full rules/conditions.. will be considered kind of done already

Here in Norway it is live on the largest TV channel. It is also Norwegian commentators. As well as a streaming option on their website and app. Also live on Eurosport.
