Smart trainer with "peloton like" app
Hey guys,

I'm a avid zwifter/trainer roader. My wife has little experience in the cycling world and thinks that everyone on zwift are too hardcore for her liking. She likes the idea of peloton but doesn't want to shell out the money for the bike.

Is there an app that will talk to my wahoo kickr and effectively give her the personal trainer, structured workout experience that peloton gives? She likes the idea of a person on a screen or a recorded spin class. Not sure if this exists but i'll ask everyone here thats in the know. A quick google turned up nothing.

Thanks in advance,
Jordan

There are a million spin classes on youtube that you can view for free: https://www.youtube.com/...rch_query=spin+class
Many are "channels," so you can get the same instructors/experiences across lots of videos.

On the smart trainer, run Zwift in the background and set Trainer Difficulty to zero (that way pedaling doesn't get impacted by the terrain). You can then watch the Youtube video and just shift gears when they want you to change the resistance level. Set the Zwift course to "road to the sky" and her spin classes will help you earn the Tron bike.

My understanding is the peloton app can't control the trainer though.

Not directly to your question, but during lock down lots of easy, live, training session have pop'd up Zwift where they live stream it on youtube so that you can follow along.
So it is very much like a Spin class and I think they might be perfect for what you are looking for.

It does not, because their expected device, the Peloton bike, isn't controllable. To adjust resistance when doing any Peloton workout, even on the Peloton bike, you have to manually adjust the resistance.

On a Kickr trainer(not the bike), Resistance mode would allow you to adjust the resistance when they request it in the Peloton class.

Has your wife tried the Zwift training programmes? My better half has been doing those for the last 18 months, just working her way through the 12 week ftp builder programme over about 6 months (sigh).... So in that case, no group ride macho crap, she just gets on the bike rides as instructed, sometimes swears back when told to "spin faster" but otherwise she's been really enjoying it and she is 100% not someone that likes competitive environments of the Zwift racing.

This worked better for 'us' as it means she doesn't need to change gears. Which means I don't end up trying to advise what cross chaining is and why it's bad, which in turn means I don't end up in the spare room for a week when the helpful advice isn't well received as she's busting a gut in a workout.
