Shorter seatpost option for 2020 Trek Domane SL 5?
I have just bought a Trek Domane SL5 in a 58, as based on my height that is the correct size for me. I have just got it home and changed a few parts and when I went to sit on it the seat post doesn't go low enough. Does anyone know if there an option for a shorter seat post? I have seen a picture with the seat almost touching the top of the seat mast of the frame, so hopefully there is an option to get the seat lower?

I am a bit of a drive from the store I picked it up from so thought I would check here first before heading back to them.

I know there are 2 heights, but I'm fairly certain the stock is the shorter of the two. I can't find them on trekbikes.com but ur LBS should be able to help.

Fine tooth hacksaw is your friend (assuming the frame really does fit, that is...). Then smooth off the cut with sandpaper or a file before installing. Might mess things up if it has mounts for an internal Di2 battery though.

It’s my opinion that Trek’s sizing recommendations for their road bikes is off a full size. I’m a little over 6’ tall with an inseam of 33.75”. That puts me smack dab in the middle of their size range for a 58. Pretty much no way I’d buy a 58. I’m a 56. I’ve had several fittings, several road bikes (including Trek).... 56. Hell, according to their website I almost fit on a 60.

YMMV.

Did you get a bike fit first?

Like another poster stated just cut your seatpost shorter. It is recommended to put some painters tape around where you cut to aid it not fraying too much. Also wear a mask as carbon fiber dust isn't good for your lungs.

If you are uncomfortable cutting it yourself have the shop where you bought the bike do it. No sense in spending money on another seatpost when the one on your bike will work fine.

Trek makes the seatpost topper in more than one length, but the question is what size do you have currently? Can you measure it?

(Folks who are recommending that he cut... something? These bikes have a proprietary seat mast. Almost certainly won't work, and will definitely kill warranty.)

It's not a seatpost topper on a Domane. It is a post that fits into the frame - just the frame has an extended seat tube.

(The Emonda has that dumb ugly post that slides over the seat mast).

It's not a topper, but it's not a standard seatpost that you can cut off either.
