Shin pain... From cycling??
Ever had this happen to you?

Had a cyclocross race yesterday. Nothing abnormal, no crashes, standard stuff.

I get home and am walking around doing stuff and about 3 hours after the race i get a shooting pain in my shin. It only happens when I turn my foot upwards (pulling toes towards shin) or point downward. Feels like a stress fracture type pain because of how sharp it is, but when pressing on the muscle in the front, it dulls a bit. Ice seemed to help, but today it came back with a vengeance while doing yard work.

Seems strange to have such a sharp pain that was so delayed in showing up...

Any guesses as to what the deal is??

ive had a similar pain like this after cycling. It eneded originating from the tibialis anterior i believe (shin muscle) and relieved it with an ice massage as well as rolling it with a lacrosse ball

It's probably shin splints (small tears where the muscle pulls away from the bone). Calf stretches will help, as will icing. What really helped for me was wearing compression (socks or calf sleeves) post workout and then overnight for a week.

The compression makes it easier for the tears to heal/reattach.
