San Francisco Riding

We'll be in the Menlo Park area for the weekend with bikes and running gear.

Any suggestions for rides up to 2 hours (30ish miles) in the area or runs up to an hour (8ish miles) or so?

An easy bike loop is if you ride over to Foothill Rd/Junipero Serra area from Menlo Park, then you can do the Portola/Alpine/Sand hill loop + an out & back on Canada Rd. The loop is about 10 mi + 16 mi for out & back on Canada Rd + if you ride over from MP and you should be around 30. If you want to climb, you can go up Old La Honda (3.75 mi climb - about 8%) from the loop and hit Skyline Rd, make a right at the top on Skyline & you can ride over to the store (3 mi) & make another right to descend 84 (4 mi) or keep going on Skyline then make a right & descend Kings Mtn. ... depends on how the weather is up on Skyline this weekend & how much climbing you want...

For running, you can either hit trails (dirt)... mostly flat... or with hills.. or a mix of flat paved trails + dirt, some options are:
* Run on the trails alongside Canada Rd -- can park near Canada/92 or even around Edgewood Rd
* Can run on paved trail at end of 92 -- think it's Sawyer... it's flat
* Can head over to Shoreline -- park at the entrance, then run on paved trail + hit mix of dirt/gravel trails (shoreline exit off 101)
* Huddart park -- trails + hills .. there is an organized trail run this weekend http://pctrailruns.com/Woodside_Dec.htm
* Can head further south to Rancho San Antonio for more trails & do wildcat loop -- about 7-8 miles w/hills ... RSA is at 280/85

Have fun!

Depending on where you will be in Menlo Park another good run is to run the Dish just above the Stanford campus. It's on Foothill Expwy, just north of Page Mill Rd.

There are lots of choices for riding. In addition to what IMGirl mentioned you could head south, down Foothill Expwy and go around the Steven's Creek Reservoir area too.

Let me know if you want more suggestions or feel free to stop by the shop for specific directions and distances. The weather should be nice this weekend so enjoy your visit.
