Colin,
I've heard a few podcasts with him and he seems like a very down to earth guy, who also happens to be super fast. He has had some good races, but not quite sure I'd go with the 'new LS' title. I remember racing 70.3 Muskoka in 2013 and seeing this pro guy absolutely flying on the hilly run course, and wondering who the hell it was. Andy Raelert was racing, and I'd assumed he'd win. This 'new' guy was LS and ran an insanely fast 1:10, and it also happened to be somewhat of a coming out part for Cody Beals as well, who finished 5th OA and easily the top amateur at the race.
I think Sam Long needs a few more solid results before a real comparison can be made. I'm not quite sure what happened to him at Lake Placid - in a good place for a KQ, but then disappeared on the run.
Sam indeed is a bright up and comer. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders for his young age. I think for Lake Placid he may have over trained. He shared some training block photos on his instagram and he had some insane volume. He's young, hungry, and seems like he can listen and I'd expect we hear about him for years to come.
