Saddle level question

To get the level of a saddle where do you place the spirit level?
Is it placed on the full seat?
Is it a third of the way in from the rear?
Thoughts please.

Depends on the saddle, I use a Fizik Arione Classic and I measure it pretty much in the middle.

Some may use the saddle rails as a reference. What saddle are you referring to?

Really depends on the saddle.

Some saddles have a rear rise/lip. For those I typically measure the nose to middle for level.

Some have a hump in the nose or a dip in the middle. For those it's more of a judgement call.

The rails typically have no set relation to the saddle level.

I use the full saddle, but it really doesn’t matter much as long as you’re consistent. It’s easiest to be consistent if you use the full saddle, I place a rigid straightedge on the high points of the saddle then use a phone app to measure. Most saddles are made to be run level, but if you’re happiest with 1-2 degrees down bubble, then do that.

A handful of saddles, like SMP, should only be measured on the front section because of the extreme curvature.
