Robin Williams death

he was a substantial figure in cycling. accordingly, i don't consider his death a topic that has to be banished to the lavender room. this one feels kind of like michael jackson to me, which is to say, impactful.

Very sad. Sometimes the people who seem to have it all are the loneliest in some ways. He made us laugh a lot. We all have to go....what matters is the impact we have on those around us when we are alive. He did good in his time here, but seems like the best talents on the planet leave us far too early. Your comparison to Jackson is appropriate. Genius cannot stay with us forever, but we hope it stays at least for its natural expected lifespan....not 'a life too short'.

Very sad! He lived in the same neighborhood as some great friends of ours was pretty prominent in and around Tahoe. Always super friendly and unassuming. He drove a Mercedes SUV with about 100 stickers on it...:) RIP!

I'M CRUSHED BY THIS! I met him twice. Once at David Bonderman's 60th BD. Backstage he stuck a quarter in one of Keith Richard's wrinkles and on stage he told us all that all we had to do was get whatever the antibodies that lived in Keith's blood out as a vaccine and we would live forever....

I also talked to him in Vegas at Bondo's 70th the night before I was to do IMAZ12 and he told me I was crazy....My friend rode with him a bunch in Marin and had coffee with him all the time and he told me he was always that "Mork" guy--genuine....this sucks!

I had a chance to ride with him while he was filming the Big White in my neck of the woods. He was a massive cycling fan and advocate. Just really passionate about the bike. Wasn't too long after his time up here that we heard he fell off the wagon when he went back to the outside world.
Depression really sucks.

Dang, the world is a little bit less bright now. Such a loss. I hope the next generation will be able to appreciate him as much as we do.

I saw this on twitter in commentary on it, and it seemed the most appropriate sentiment:

I knew him, and he was such a wonderful guy.

It guts me that he felt, in the end, that he had no where to turn for help.

I'm too upset right now to really be able to be coherent about this.

I remember the story that bicycling magazine did on Robin Williams a few years back and after that, I thought he was a really cool guy. A sad loss for the cycling and endurance community.

<<I had no idea he worked with CAF...>>

For a very long time.

Living in NorCal, most NorCal cyclists have a Robin Wiliams story or two. My Facebook is full of NorCal cyclists/triathletes memories of him. When he still lived in SF, his house was on the Alcatraz bike course and he used to go out and cheer people on, then bring his kids down to the finish. One year a guy flatted in front of his house and Robin ran in a got a pump for the guy to use.

I worked as an extra on one of his movies and we had to shoot the scene about 20 times or more. After every take, Robin would walk back through the crowd a different way so he could shake everyone's hand.

Just a really nice man.
