Road cage that doesn't damage bottle?
So for years I didn't take notice my carbon cages because I couldn't see scratches on my black bottles. Now I have a white bike and got some nice yellow bottles and after the first decent they looked kinda ruined.
Are there road bottle cages that hold the bottles tight (no rattling, clunking on jumps, launching, wobbling on turns etc) without scratching up you're bottles every time you drink?

Do I have to go back to 90s style Elite ciussi's which have the slippery red buttons built in? Or are there other options?

I used to have one of these a billion years ago.

I'm surprised they aren't popular today

Yes, the best option is to get over it, they are just water bottles not your carbon frame.

King Cages. I’ve had the same pair for 20 years and they never drop or damage a bottle.

I think the function of a water bottle is to hold a liquid that you drink. The definition of a water bottle being ruined would be it doesn't hold water. I don't give a crap about what my bottles look like on the outside as long as the serve their function, but maybe that's just me.

I hate to tell you this, but I've got a set of those on one of my bikes, and they do a more than adequate job of defacing bottles.

Pretty much anything you stick your bottle in is going to do this if you aren't absolutely fanatic about keeping both bottle and cage free of grit. Once that grit gets in there, moving the bottle in/out cause abrasion on the cage, which gets roughened, and then causes abrasion on the bottle. If it's an aluminum cage, you then start to get grey oxidation on the bottle, too. Ti is less reactive so you get less oxidation.

If you really want to use white bottles, and keep them from getting scratched, you need to polish the inside of your cages periodically. If they're smooth, they won't scratch your bottles. They also (probably) won't grip as well, but (shrugs).

The tighter the grip, the more a carbon cage is to scuff/scratch water bottles (which are made of soft plastics like LDPE). At least carbon and thermoplastic don't leave the black scuffs that the old aluminum cages used to.

I've got some old supergo carbon cages that hold bottles securely with minimal scuffing, whereas something like a xlab gorilla is going to scrape a lot more.

Many of the Elite cages (I use the Cannibal on my BTA setup) have a rubber grip that won't scrape the plastic, but the "hook" for the bottle indent can still scrape.

The best solution IMO is to get bottles that don't show the superficial damage as readily. Clear or black with minimal screen printing to scrape off seem to work best. The second best solution is to ride so fast that no one can see the details of your bottles.

I'll also recommend King Cages. I use the Iris model.

Hmm, I sense an opportunity for bottle cage lube to become a thing to overcome that abrasion and wear. Left unchecked your cages could be wearing out in less than 200000 miles!

Obviously wax lube to avoid sticky hands, and gulf wax would be optimal due to being food grade. Now we need to ague over hot dip (have to remove the bottle cages every time unless it’s a quick release cage) or drip lube....

Yeah, King.

I've only used the stainless steel and they're great. The titanium as supposed to be great too.

You are reminding me of my wife, for her everything has to stay new. Look up the term "beausage". You use it well and there is no harm to see the usage!

I've been using Serfas NC-150 nylon bottle cages. They are cheap - $6.00. I haven't had any problems with bottles falling out of them, and they don't scratch the bottles. They have a claimed weight of 28 grams, but I haven't attempted to confirm this.
