Replacing rim tape that’s glued(?) to the wheel
Quote | Reply
A long nail went into my tire yesterday and tore the rim tape a bit

When I put a new tube in, the shredded tape gives my new tube a slow leak.

This rim tape appears to be glued to the rim (it says tubeless compatible on it) and I’m struggling to get it off so I can put new tape down.

Is there a trick to pulling off the tape that’s glued to the rim?

Just cut out the bad section with a razor blade and replace it.

Dumb question - replace what? Ive never had sticky rim tape before, it’s always been a giant circle that I can pull / snap over the entire rim

It's a thin tape that is adhesive backed.

Rip all the tape out, there will probably be a residue, either remove using acetone or a hairdryer. The latter option (IMO) is better and less messy. Once removed just get replacement rim tape from shop. I use cloth rim tape as I've found plastic rim tape can harden and cause flats.
