Regional fondos close to Raleigh? Help finding more...

I'm putting together options for our work's 2019 submittal to do a group event. They did one in 2018 and fronted the entry fee and a team kit (we sponsor a pro team so get some sweet discounts).

I've got the usual suspects on the list but want some other options. I've already got Boone, Asheville, Hincappie. We chose Boone and Hincappie last year. Most people did Boone.

All the foothills/mountain fondos always are easy to find. Are there any much closer to Raleigh? I know of bike MS but some of these folks are definitely interested in a timing option like some of the other events do. Not super competitive folks, but kind of want a result of some kind. Not Raven Rock as that sells out too fast.

These aren't bike racers and for Boone last year it was about 50% doing the short route, 25% mid, and 25% long. But, they still like some kind of challenge, hence wanting to see a time or overall result of some kind.

If you know of something not posted yet for 2019, let me know and I'll slip the date into my proposal.

Personally, I can get more folks on board and easier on me if it doesn't involve overnight stays. Folks also tend to appreciate getting a total time and/or finisher medal kind of thing. I don't personally care, I suffer for the fun of suffering. But, these are considerations. Not everyone has a mtb or gravel bike, but I am definitely including the UGG this year as an option for a local sadistic option.

Also, anyone know of anything other than the coastal NC 1/2 IM that would do a relay team? Some people might also be interested in a relay team option but a coastal 1/2 IM might be a stretch.

I'm googling it up, but not everyone has their 2019 stuff posted for a while but folks may remember 2018 events that were put on.

Thanks!

I don't know of any gran fondos closer to Raleigh than the mountains (if anyone else does I'd be excited to hear about it), but I know there are at least a few century/metric century type rides around here - the Firecracker ride in Holly Springs on July 4th and Reach the Beach that goes out to Wilmington in September, I think. I'm sure there are more....can't think of them at the moment.

There was one associated with the Winston-Salem Cycling Classic last May. Not seeing anything posted about a 2019 event though.

Does your asheville list include the Farm to Fork fondos from the NE? They're spreading down south, I haven't had the chance before I moved out west but heard fantastic things
