Hi Nicolas,

First off, I wanted to say I love the product. I purchased a P2M Gossamer for myself and the wife a few months ago and have flawless riding since.

Just had a quick question on the battery life. I saw the expected hours online, but just wanted to get your advice on signs of needed replacement. The P2M is synced to a Garmin Edge 500, and I was wondering if the head unit will provide a "Battery Low" sign for the P2M? Or will I start to notice occasional power dropouts?

I am just trying to get as much use out of each battery as possible considering that I do not have easy local access to a replacement.

Thanks!

Hi,

great to hear you like your power2max :-). The Garmin does usually give a low battery warning. However, lithium batteries sometimes have a "plateau" above the warning voltage and then suddenly cut off. In that case it can happen that they just go. It has only happened to me once in very cold weather.

I would just get a replacement battery from Amazon and have it lying around - it's about less than $5. Please make sure you only use batteries from Renata - other brands don't fit reliably.

Cheers
Nicolas

Got my wife a P2M a couple of months ago and once we got the power drops figured out (switched from a Garmin 910XT back to a 310XT) she really likes it. I also want to thank Michael for the little 'extra'. Nice customer service! When funds allow, I am thinking of getting one for my QR Cd.01.

Looking to purchase a power meter after the holidays. I have a stock 2012 B16 and want to replace the cranks as well. Would your Rotor 3D PM and cranks be compatible with my bike?

Hi rjankin83,

thanks for your interest! Your B16 comes with a Megaexo bottom bracket. You can use the Rotor 3D or FSA Gossamer without problems on that - just remove the cranks and install our power meter with cranks.

Hope this helps,

Best

Hi.

I'm about to order a power meter from you, but I'm unsure of the bottom bracket. The bike I got is a Planet X Stealth Pro with SRAM Red, and according to the Planet X website the BB I've got is a "BSA Threaded" and there's no such thing in your list of bottom brackets. Would love some feedback on what I should order, or if I need an adapter or something. Thanks!

Hi Ironswede,

A BSA threaded frame goes under BSA68 on our site. Since you have SRAM Red on it at the moment you will have a GXP bottom bracket. Unfortunately that's a slightly different standard to what our power meters use and you need to change the bottom bracket. If you go for the FSA Gossamer I recommend the FSA Megaexo bottom bracket, in case of the Rotor 3D the Rotor BB1.

I hope this helps,

Best

Can you do crank arms shorter than 165 on the Rotor 3D model and can you fit the Aero Qrings to the compact version?

Thanks

Hi vikingmd,

currently the shortest version of the Rotor 3D is 165mm. We may get shorter versions in the future. Currently we have the Rotor 3D+ in lengths down to 150mm.

On the current model the aero Q-Rings don't fit without modification. The new Type S model (delivery from February) won't have this restriction.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately the 3D+ is not compatible with the Speed Concept bottom bracket.

What's the pricing going to be for the Type S?

That's right - I ride the 3D myself on my Speed Concept.

The Type S is going to be $200 more expensive than the current model. We will keep both so you have the choice.

Hey Nicolas,

I ride a Specialized Shiv Expert with the below cranks:

175mm FSA SL-K Light
BB30
110BCD

Which current power-meter would work with this set-up? Will the new S-type work?

Thanks!!

Hi dyarab,

The SL-K light have an integrated spider, so unfortunately you can't install a power meter on them. On the current model the Rotor 3DF or 3D+ is the first choice. On Type S it's 3DF or 3D+ plus Spcecialized S-Works, Cannondale Hollowgram, and SRAM S900 BB30, Unfortunately, though, we won't stock those cranks, so you'd need to get them elsewhere.

Cheers

I have my PM all up and running now, but I keep dropping cadence/power with my 910xt.

I tried moving it from my left wrist to right and it didn't seem to help. I then strapped it to bars near the brake hood and then it seems to hold the signal. Is this normal? Is there a way I can fix this?

Hi healthynine,

does the problem occur indoors or outdoors? Can you please check which version of the firmware you are using on the 910XT? I personally also use it and don't have problems, so hopefully it's just a firmware update issue.

It's just been indoors since its been cold. I don't know my firmware version but I don't think its the latest one. I will try that.

Power2Max:

I have a Trek 1500 with Shimano 105. Would love to buy one of your power meters for Christmas but I am not a wrench of any kind. Can you let me know what crank setup will work with my bottom bracket? Thanks in advance!

@trisuppo: from the sounds of things you'll likely have a bsa threaded frame with an external bottom bracket. In that case you can go for the FSA Gossamer or the Rotor 3D. To double check best send us a picture of your bottom bracket area taken from below to support at power2max dot com.

@healthynine: thanks for keeping me updated. A good way to check reception is to use two units in parallel. If only one cuts out it's on the side of the recording unit.

Hi Nicolas,

I'm running a 53/39 (130mm) Rotor 3D+ Aero (NOT Q-Rings) on my P3 (http://www.artscyclery.com/descpage-RT3DPC3.html). Can the power meter be added to this setup without any modifications to the chainring?

I apologize if this has been asked already. I read through the other posts, but I only caught a few comments on compact aero or Q-rings.

Thanks!
Kyle
